Frederick Thomas Lord (11 February 1879 - February 1928) was a British track and field athlete who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics and the 1912 Summer Olympics. He finished 15th and 21st in the Men's Marathon in his two Olympic games. [1] Lord was the only one to finish both races. [2]
In later life, Lord lived in Cleckheaton and worked for the chemical firm of Crowther & Co. Ltd. While at work in February 1928 he used a knife as a replacement for a shoe-horn. After cutting his heel, he developed septic poisoning and died. [3] He left a widow and four children. [4]
Johnny Weissmuller was an American Olympic swimmer, water polo player and actor. He was known for having one of the best competitive-swimming records of the 20th century. He set world records alongside winning five gold medals in the Olympics. He won the 100m freestyle and the 4 × 200 m relay team event in the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris and the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. Weissmuller also won gold in the 400m freestyle, as well as a bronze medal in the water polo competition in Paris.
Gregory Efthimios Louganis is an American Olympic diver who won gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics on the springboard and platform. He is the only man and the second diver in Olympic history to sweep the diving events in consecutive Olympic Games. He has been called both "the greatest American diver" and "probably the greatest diver in history".
Percy Alfred Williams was a Canadian athlete, winner of the 100 and 200 metres races at the 1928 Summer Olympics and a former world record holder for the 100 metres sprint.
Frank "Frankie" Fredericks is a former track and field athlete from Namibia. Running in the 100 metres and 200 metres, he won four silver medals at the Olympic Games, making him Namibia's only able-bodied Olympic medalist until Christine Mboma's silver medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Frederick William Schule was an American track and field athlete, football player, athletic coach, teacher, bacteriologist, and engineer. He competed for the track and field teams at the University of Wisconsin from 1900 to 1901 and at the University of Michigan in 1904. Frederick Fleet was a British sailor, crewman and a survivor of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. Fleet, along with fellow lookout Reginald Lee, was on duty when the ship struck the iceberg; Fleet first sighted the iceberg, ringing the bridge to proclaim: "Iceberg, right ahead!" Both Fleet and Lee survived the sinking, Fleet was the last surviving lookout of the Titanic.

Huston won gold medals at the SLS Super Crown World Championship in 2014, 2017 to 2019, and has won 15 gold medals at the X Games since 2011. Huston won his first Olympic medal, a bronze, in the 2024 Olympic men's street event at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
John C. Miles, was a Canadian marathon runner. He won the Boston Marathon in 1926 and 1929.
Frederick Richard Gaby was an English hurdler who competed in the 110 metre event at the 1924 and 1928 Summer Olympics. In 1924 he was eliminated in the semi-finals, while in 1928 he finished sixth. Gaby won the bronze medal in the 120 yards hurdles at the 1930 Empire Games, aged between 41 - 45.

During his career he made hundreds of illustrations for The Graphic, Punch and Country Life, most connected with horses and riding. His work was part of the art competitions at the 1928 Summer Olympics, the 1932 Summer Olympics, and the 1948 Summer Olympics.
