Freedom State (2006) is a short independent narrative film written and directed by Cullen Hoback.
A woman named Krystal, unhappy with her husband and her life, checks into a small rural "mental health home". Her problem is that she may prefer a "crazy" state of mind and lifestyle to "normal" ones. The resident mental patients discover that Nurse Garrett, the facility supervisor, has absconded and conclude that the apocalypse (rapture) has occurred and the world has ended. Led by Krystal, who has been voted "President", most of the patients embark upon a whimsical school bus road trip, variously understood as a "quest" or a search for survivors or for the "end of the world". The bus driver is the home's former security guard, who is joining in with the hijinks. In the end, they all return to the home where Dax (Krystal's love interest) has decided he will not "check out" of the facility after all. The patients symbolically bury various objects in a grave and voice contempt for Nurse Garrett. Krystal burns a photo of her husband. Nurse Garrett returns to the home where the patients pummel her with cornbread. Krystal declares that she has decided she wants both "crazy" and "love".

Tad Martin is a fictional character from the American daytime drama, All My Children. Tad was played by three actors, according to the age of the character: Matthew Anton, John E. Dunn, and Michael E. Knight. Knight has portrayed the role on and off from 1982 until the series finale in 2011. Florence Wald was an American nurse, former Dean of Yale School of Nursing, and largely credited as "the mother of the American hospice movement". John Hunt is an Irish citizen who was involuntarily detained as a psychiatric patient. The conditions of Hunt's detention have been the subject of a sustained campaign by his former partner and mother of his child Gráinne Humphrys. He was committed as an involuntary psychiatric patient in 2005 and was detained at a secure psychiatric unit at Our Lady's Hospital in Cork until August 2011 when he was transferred to the Central Mental Hospital, Dundrum, Dublin. Until 2010 he was not granted leave for any temporary release from the Cork facility to visit his family. As a result of the campaign of his former partner that year the Cork hospital allowed Hunt six hours unsupervised leave every two weeks. However, following a violent altercation with a psychiatric nurse this leave was rescinded and Hunt was transferred to the main Irish forensic psychiatric unit in Dundrum.

Salomé Karwah was a Liberian nurse who was named co-Person of the Year by Time magazine in 2014 for her efforts to combat the West African Ebola virus epidemic. She appeared on the cover of Time in December 2014 with other health care workers and colleagues working to end the epidemic. Karwah survived ebola herself, before returning to work with Médecins Sans Frontières to help other patients afflicted with the disease. The actions of Karwah and other health care professionals are believed to have saved lives of thousands. However, two years later, Karwah died from complications of childbirth; her widower suggested that this might have been due to the widespread, mistaken belief that ebola survivors can still transmit the virus. Even before the ebola outbreak, Liberia had one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the world.
