Gabriel Rodriguez is a Mexican chef and television personality. He is known as being a two-time contestant on the reality television show Top Chef .

Career

Rodriguez started cooking at an early age as a necessity to earn an income. [1] He is originally from Mexico City. After obtaining a culinary degree, he worked at Pujol under Enrique Olvera. He later joined the restaurant Arboledas 125 in Chiapas, before becoming head chef at Maximo Bistrot in Mexico City. He has cited Eduardo García from Maximo Bistrot as being a major influence on his cooking. [2]

In 2017, Rodriguez was announced the winner of the second season of Top Chef México . [3] After his win, he planned on opening his own restaurant in Mexico City. [4] In 2018, Rodriguez was cooking at Tetetlán, a restaurant in Mexico City. [5]

In 2023, Rodriguez was invited back to compete in Top Chef: World All-Stars . He was in the bottom and almost eliminated more than any of the other competitors. He was subsequently nicknamed "El Gato" referring to the common myth that cats have multiple lives. [6] Although he made it to the finale, Rodriguez was ultimately defeated by Buddha Lo. [7]

Em is a fine dining restaurant in Colonia Roma, Cuauhtémoc, Mexico City, that serves contemporary Mexican cuisine with Japanese influences. It has daily à la carte options and an eight- to nine-full-course tasting menu. It is owned by chef Luis "Lucho" Martínez, who opened it in 2018 as Emilia in Colonia Cuauhtémoc. It was later renamed and relocated to Colonia Roma due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the food industry. Critics have given the restaurant favorable reviews, and in 2024, Em received one Michelin star in the first Michelin Guide covering restaurants in Mexico.

Los Danzantes is a Mexican restaurant chain owned by Grupo Los Danzantes. There are two branches, one in Coyoacán, Mexico City, and one in Oaxaca City, Oaxaca; each one has independent menus. The restaurants serve Mexican and Oaxacan cuisines and the Oaxacan restaurant received a Michelin star in 2024 in the first Michelin Guide covering restaurants in Mexico.
