Indre ; is a department in central France named after the river Indre. The inhabitants of the department are known as the Indriens and Indriennes. He distinguished himself in the Wars of Religion for Henri IV against the Catholic League and against the pirate Barberoussette. Then he became the first royal governor of the fort of Brescou, hence his military quarrel with Henri II de Montmorency (1618).
