The Ghent May Regatta, founded in 1889, is one of the largest rowing regattas in Belgium and the Netherlands. It is organised by Royal Sport Nautique de Gand, and was one of the first foreign co-winners of the Grand Challenge Cup. Eveline Peleman is a member of the club.

The men's eight was one of four rowing events on the Rowing at the 1908 Summer Olympics programme. Nations could enter up to two boats. Six boats from five nations competed. The event was won by Leander Club, one of the two British boats. The silver medal went to the Belgian team from Royal Club Nautique de Gand. Bronze medals were awarded to the two semifinal losers; Argonaut Rowing Club of Canada had been defeated by Leander while Britain's second boat, from Cambridge University Boat Club, lost to the Belgians.

The Watersportbaan, official name: Nationale Watersportbaan Georges Nachez, is a five lane rowing race course in the Belgian city of Ghent. It is 2300 metres long and 76m wide and was first used in 1954. Despite most major international Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d'Aviron (FISA) regattas are designed to adhere to the 8-lane Albano format, this race track is suited for 2 medium-sized international FISA Regattas, but also for smaller competitions. The two important annual regattas are Ghent May Regatta organised by Royal Sport Nautique de Gand and the Spring Regatta in April.

Rodolphe Antoine Pierre Thérèse Poma, also known as Rudolph Poma, was a Belgian rower who competed in the 1900 Summer Olympics and 1908 Summer Olympics for Belgium. He competed in 1900 as coxswain of the Royal Club Nautique de Gand which won the silver medal in the eight and in 1908 as rower of the same club which won the silver medal in the eight.

Eveline Peleman from Ghent, Belgium is an elite rower. She was the 2014 World Champion in the women's lightweight 1x in Amsterdam. After winning the Lightweight women's single scull (LW1x) in Amsterdam. She started rowing back in 2005 at Royal Sport Nautique de Gand. This club was the first foreign Grand Challenge Cup winner and participated several times in the Thames Challenge Cup contest. Eveline also got a bronze medal in the 2014 World Rowing U23 Championships.

The 1896 European Rowing Championships were rowing championships held on Lake Geneva in the Swiss city of Geneva on 6 September. The competition was for men only, five nations competed, and the regatta had four boat classes. At the FISA Congress held on the same day as these championships, four nations were represented.

The 1897 European Rowing Championships were rowing championships held on Lake Maggiore in the Italian commune of Pallanza on 8 September. The competition was for men only, four nations competed, and the regatta had four boat classes. At the FISA Congress held on the same day as these championships, it was decided that the double scull boat class would be introduced in the following year.
