It is the corporation's oldest and flagship channel, and is known for broadcasting mainstream programming, which includes BBC News television bulletins, primetime drama and entertainment, and live BBC Sport events.

Since the launch of specially dedicated television channels in 2002, the services have been marketed under two brands. CBBC is aimed at children aged between 6 and 12, and CBeebies offers content for younger viewers.

Sportsround is a spin-off from CBBC children's news programme Newsround. The sports magazine show was broadcast weekly, between 2005 and 2010, on Friday evenings at 6:30pm on CBBC Channel and on Saturday mornings on BBC Two at 7.25am. It was first shown on BBC One on 10th September 2005 at 11.45am.
The O Zone was a weekly music magazine show broadcast on BBC from 1989 to 2000 made by BBC Children's Presentation. The first series was presented by Andy Crane on BBC One as a ten-minute filler each weekday morning during the summer school holidays, before switching to a Sunday-morning slot from that September onwards. The series continued as a five-to-15-minute filler shown during school holidays and Sunday mornings on CBBC throughout the year, hosted by CBBC presenters Andi Peters, Philippa Forrester, Toby Anstis and Zoë Ball.

The shows launch presenters were Konnie Huq and Adrian Dickson and the show was a huge success they continued it over for another series in 2003.

Deadly... is a strand of British wildlife documentary programming aimed principally at children and young people, which is broadcast on CBBC on BBC One and Two and on the CBBC Channel. It is presented by Steve Backshall, with Naomi Wilkinson as co-host on Live 'n Deadly, and Barney Harwood as co-host on Natural Born Hunters. The strand began with a single series known as Deadly 60, and has subsequently expanded into a number of spin-offs, re-edits and follow-up versions.

Inel Tomlinson is an actor, TV personality and stand-up comedian from London, best known for being one half of Johnny and Inel alongside Johnny Cochrane, the UK's first black comedy double act. The duo are well known on kids TV for their hit CBBC TV comedy show The Johnny & Inel Show and Junior Vets on Call. In 2015, the pair joined the Fubar Radio team and took over the airwaves with their Thursday afternoon 'Live & Loud' show. After a successful year at Fubar Radio, the duo were invited to join the all-new Virgin Radio UK lineup in a prime Friday night 7pm-11pm slot.
Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch is a British CBBC cooking entertainment programme which follows Gordon Ramsay and family on their summer holidays. In December 2014 CBBC announced that they had commissioned a new cooking show aimed at children with the first episode airing on 14 April 2015. Series one of the show follows the Ramsay family through their summer holiday in Los Angeles while Gordon's daughter, main star Matilda "Tilly" Ramsay, cooks up a meal to take out or have at home. Five seasons were produced, the last airing in 2019.
Saturday Mash-Up! is a live British Saturday morning children's magazine entertainment programme on CBBC and BBC Two, first broadcast on 30 September 2017. It is currently presented by Joe Tasker, Shereen Cutkelvin and a puppet monster called Stanley performed by Dave Chapman, Kia Pegg is a recurring presenter in the show.
