Godfather-in-law is a documentary book written by Rakhat Aliyev, former son-in-law of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. In his book, Aliyev gives a deep insight into the corrupt, criminal activities of the autocratic system in Kazakhstan, including secrets and the system of governance of Nursultan Nazarbayev. The book Godfather-in-law was published in German and English languages. There is a criminal liability in Kazakhstan for distributing and using the book.

The Nurbank bank, founded in Atyrau regional governor's office was taken over by Rakhat Aliyev in January 2007. Shortly after, two Nurbank managers, Zholdas Timraliyev and Aybar Khasenov, were kidnapped, tortured and eventually killed by Aliyev. In May 2007, the criminal proceedings against Aliyev in Almaty began and Kazakhstan sentenced him for forty years.

The 2016 Aktobe shootings were a spate of shootings on civilian and military targets in Aktobe, Kazakhstan, in June 2016. On 5 June, two attacks occurred at gun stores, while a third attack was aimed at a military unit. Multiple shootouts between terrorists and police occurred over the next few days. Another shooting occurred at children's camp on 8 June. The shootings left 7 victims dead and 37 injured. Eighteen attackers were killed and nine were arrested.

Almaty Towers formerly named as Rahat Towers is a multi functional business complex in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Built as an addition to the five-star hotel "Hyatt Regency" with its former name Rahat Palace, it is used as offices and shopping and entertainment center which is located on the first floor. With its height of 100 meters and 25 floors it has the same height as Hotel Kazakhstan. An interesting feature that the building has is a special LED lights which illuminates at night.

2019 Kazakh presidential election

Early presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan on 9 June 2019 following the resignation of long-term president Nursultan Nazarbayev. Originally scheduled for 2020, seven candidates were registered to participate in the elections, including incumbent president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who had assumed the presidency three months before the elections following the resignation of Nazarbayev. Tokayev was subsequently re-elected with 71% of the vote. His closest challenger, Amirjan Qosanov of the Ult Tagdyry party, received 16%.

The Order of the First President of Kazakhstan – Leader of the Nation Nursultan Nazarbayev, also referred to simply as the Order of Nazarbayev, is a state award of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It was established on 1 January 2001 in honor of President Nursultan Nazarbayev who was at the time, the first and only President of Kazakhstan.
