Government City in Dodoma, Tanzania is a settlement established by former president John Magufuli that will serve as the seat of the national government. Magufuli died in office in 2021. [2] It will host all the ministry buildings, diplomatic enclave, government houses and the judiciary. It is located 17 km east of the city centre, and called Magufuli City. The project will cost $4.7 billion. [3] The second phase of the project cost Tsh 675 billion ($259 million). [4]

The administrative capital area has been planned in detail, and is named for the late president. Buildings are under construction in 2024. [2]

Dodoma, officially Dodoma City, is the capital of Tanzania and the administrative capital of both Dodoma Municipal Council and the entire Dodoma Region, with a population of 765,179. In 1974, the Tanzanian government announced that Tanzania's federal capital would be moved from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma for social and economic reasons and to centralise the capital within the country. It became the official capital in 1996.
