Military alliances differ from coalitions, which formed for a crisis that already exists.

Frederick Thomas Winter, was a British National Hunt racing racehorse jockey and trainer. He was British jump racing Champion Jockey four times and British jump racing Champion Trainer eight times. He is the only person to have won the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle and Grand National as both jockey and trainer. Winter won the Grand National four times, as a jockey in 1957 (Sundew) and 1962 (Kilmore), and as a trainer in 1965 and 1966 (Anglo).
The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election of 2009 took place in April 2009, concurrently with the 2009 Indian general election. The elections were held in the state in the first phase (2009-04-16) and second phase (2009-04-23). The results were declared on 2009-05-16. The incumbent Indian National Congress retained power in the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly lower house, though with a reduced majority. The Congress Legislature party re-elected incumbent Chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as its leader thus re-nominating him to the post. Thus, becoming the first politician to serve as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in successive terms.

The Grand Alliance won the 2008 Parliamentary election and formed a government in 2009.
The 18 Party Alliance is a coalition of Bangladeshi political parties led by Bangladesh Nationalist Party and other right wing parties. It was formed on 18 April 2012 in Dhaka, extending its predecessor the Four Party Alliance. Four opposition parties in the state, the INC, the TJS, the TDP and the CPI have announced the formation of a 'Mahakootami', with an objective of defeating the ruling TRS in the elections. However the Maha Kootami could not win a majority. Ultimately, the TRS won and formed the government once again
