Vaxholm Municipality is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. The municipal slogan is "Vaxholm – the capital of the archipelago", due to its central location in the archipelago. Its seat is located in the city of Vaxholm.
Värmdö Municipality is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is in the town of Gustavsberg, with a population of 9,682 (2005), on the main island at an elevation of 37 metres (121 ft).

The Kastellet ferry, also known as the Vaxholmen ferry, is a passenger cable ferry in Sweden's Stockholm archipelago. It connects the town of Vaxholm to Vaxholm Castle, situated on an islet in the middle of the Kodjupet strait between the town and the island of Rindö. At its town terminus, the ferry berths next to the quay used by the Waxholmsbolaget passenger ferries that link Vaxholm to central Stockholm and many other islands of the archipelago.
The Väddö Canal is an artificial canal first dug in the 16th century to provide a sheltered passage between the Bagghusfjärden to the south and the Väddöviken to the north. The canal separates the island of Väddö from the mainland, and passes through the village of Älmsta at its northern end, and the lake of Storfjärden towards its middle.
