Gyro's 3D Fear Factory (known as Gyro's 3D Scream Fest in San Jose) is an annual temporary haunted house attraction hosted in San Jose and Sacramento, California during the weeks leading up to Halloween.

A haunted attraction is a form of live entertainment that simulates the experience of covering haunted locations or envisioning horror fiction. They usually feature fearsome sets and characters, especially ghosts, monsters, demons, witches, serial killers, and/or psychopaths. Humourous characters may also be included.

Locations

Both attractions are set up in large shopping venues; in 2007, the San Jose event was hosted inside the Westfield Oakridge Mall, and the Sacramento event was hosted in the Westfield Downtown Plaza.

Westfield Oakridge, formerly known as Westfield Shoppingtown Oakridge and Oakridge Mall, is a shopping mall that was sold to Westfield America, Inc. in 1998, and was rebranded as "Westfield Shoppingtown Oakridge" soon after. The mall is anchored by Macy's and Target with junior anchors Century Theatres, Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy, Forever 21, and H&M.

One round trip per day runs from Oakland through the eastern Sacramento suburbs to Auburn, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Capitol Corridor trains started in 1991.

Metreon

The Metreon is a shopping center located in downtown San Francisco at the corner of 4th Street and Mission Street. It is a four-story 350,000 square foot (33,000 m²) building built over the corner of the underground Moscone Center convention center. Metreon opened on June 16, 1999, as the first of a proposed chain of Sony "urban entertainment centers", aggregating dining, games, music, exhibitions, shopping, and movies. Sony intended the ambitious 85 million dollar project to be not only a theme park and gallery for Sony products but also a way to reinforce a sophisticated image for the Sony brand.
