HK Lido Nafta Riga was an ice hockey team in Riga, Latvia. They played in the Latvian Hockey League and the Latvian Second League from 1994-2001.

Riga City in Latvia

Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia. With 637,827 inhabitants (2018), it is also the largest city in the three Baltic states, home to one third of Latvia's population and one tenth of the three Baltic states' combined population. The city lies on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the Daugava river. Riga's territory covers 307.17 km2 (118.60 sq mi) and lies 1–10 m above sea level, on a flat and sandy plain.

History

The club was founded in 1994, and took part in the Latvian Second Hockey League (Pirmā līga), which they won in 1996, and were thus promoted to the Latvian Hockey League. [1] The club then took part in the LHL, which they finished second in 1998, 1999, and 2000. In 2001, the club finished in third place, and folded after the season.

Mārtiņš Karsums is a Latvian professional ice hockey player currently playing as a right winger for HC Spartak Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Karsums was selected in the second round, 64th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. He has played in the National Hockey League for the Bruins and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Edgars Masaļskis Latvian ice hockey player

Edgars Masaļskis is a Latvian ice hockey coach and former player. Playing as a goaltender, Masaļskis represented the Latvian national team, and has played for a number of clubs, with five seasons in Liepājas Metalurgs as his longest stay at any club. He retired after the 2016–17 season, and joined Dinamo Riga's coaching staff on October 2, 2017.

FK Liepājas Metalurgs Latvian association football club, based in the city of Liepāja

FK Liepājas Metalurgs was a Latvian football club in the city of Liepāja and playing in the Virslīga. They played at the Daugava Stadium. In 2005 Liepājas Metalurgs became the first team other than Skonto Riga to win the Virslīga since the league restarted in 1991. After the 2013 league season the club was dissolved due to the bankruptcy of its sole sponsor metallurgical plant Liepājas Metalurgs. The club was replaced by FK Liepāja, founded in 2014.

HK Riga 2000

HK Riga 2000 was a Belarusian Extraliga team based in Riga, Latvia. The team had played in the LHL since it was founded. In 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons the club also iced a team in the Belarusian Hockey League, and in 2005-06 finished 3rd. HK Riga 2000 was first foreign team to finish in top three of Belarusian Open Championship. The club has also played several years in the Continental Cup, winning silver in 2005-06 and 2007-08. Before the 2009-2010 KHL season the team was merged into HK Dinamo/Juniors Rīga, the farmclub of KHL side Dinamo Rīga.
