Hamilton Steelers (1958–67)

The Hamilton Steelers were a soccer team in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The team was known as Hamilton Italo-Canadian Soccer Club from 1958 to 1960 when they played in the National Soccer League, then switched their name to the Steelers in 1961 when they joined the Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League. According to the Hamilton Spectator, the club was "incorporated in 1959 and capitalized at $200,000 with common shares bearing a par value of $1." In 1961, major shareholders were John Agro and Arnold Martini.

In November 1964, Primo Polianato took over as the club's major shareholder and subsequently renamed the club Primo Hamilton Soccer Club. The club remained in the Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League through 1966, then rejoined the National Soccer League in 1967 after the amalgamation of the two leagues.

The league was also known as the National Soccer League of Ontario and Quebec. Adding 'Canadian' in 1993 was a result of the folding of the original CSL, and the accepting of the Winnipeg Fury, making the league more national.

Zoltán Czibor was a Hungarian footballer who played for several Hungarian clubs, including Ferencváros and Budapest Honvéd, and the Hungary national team before joining CF Barcelona. Czibor played as a left-winger or striker and was notable for having a powerful shot, good pace and excellent ball control. During the 1950s he was part of the Magical Magyars, reaching the World Cup final with them in 1954. After the 1956 Hungarian Revolution he moved to Spain where he became a prominent member of the successful FC Barcelona team of the late 1950s. After three seasons at Barcelona, he joined their local rivals Español for the 1961/62 season. After brief spells at FC Basel, FK Austria Wien and Primo Hamilton FC, he retired as a professional footballer and returned to Hungary. He died there in 1997, aged 68.

The original Canadian Professional Soccer League (CPSL) was a Division 1 professional soccer league that operated in Canada in 1983. It was a nationwide league that had six franchises in three provinces. It lasted for just one abridged, 73-day, summer season in 1983.

The Hamilton Steelers were a Canadian soccer team in Hamilton, Ontario that competed in the original Canadian Soccer League, the original Canadian Professional Soccer League, National Soccer League and the Challenge Trophy. The club played mainly out of Brian Timmis Stadium, which was adjacent to Ivor Wynne Stadium.

In 1930 Hamilton, Ontario, Canada was the sit of the very first Commonwealth Games, then known as the British Empire Games. The Games came to Hamilton as a result of the efforts of Melville Marks Robinson, and were Canada's first major international athletic event, and bid unsuccessfully for the Commonwealth Games in 2010, losing out to New Delhi in India. On 7 November 2009, in Guadalajara, Mexico it was announced that Toronto will host the 2015 Pan Am Games after beating out two rival South American cities, Lima, Peru and Bogota, Colombia. The city of Hamilton will be co-hosting the Games with Toronto. Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger said "the Pan Am Games will provide a 'unique opportunity for Hamilton to renew major sport facilities giving Hamiltonians a multi-purpose stadium, a 50-metre swimming pool, and an international-calibre velodrome to enjoy for generations to come.'"

The second iteration of the Toronto Blizzard was a Canadian professional soccer team in Toronto, Ontario that competed in the Canadian Soccer League, National Soccer League, and the American Professional Soccer League. The club was formed shortly after the folding of the original team that coincided with the folding of the North American Soccer League. This edition of the club folded in 1993 after poor financial prospects and lack of attendance.

Károly Charles Horváth was a Hungarian-American soccer player who spent one season in the National Professional Soccer League, one in the International Soccer League and at least two in the German-American Soccer League. He also earned one cap with the U.S. national team.

The original Canadian Soccer League was a Division 1 professional soccer league that operated in Canada from 1987 to 1992. It was a nationwide league that had franchises in six provinces over the course of its history.

Canadian Premier League Canadian professional soccer league

The Canadian Premier League is a professional soccer league in Canada. At the top of the Canadian soccer league system, it is the country's primary national soccer league competition. The league consists of eight teams, from five of Canada's ten provinces. The regular league season lasts from April to October, with each team playing 28 games. The season culminates in the CPL Finals. The CPL champion earns a berth in the CONCACAF League, playing against teams from Central America and the Caribbean. Commencing in 2023, the CPL will be awarded two slots directly in to the new format for the CONCACAF Champions League. The 1982 National Soccer League season was the fifty ninth season under the National Soccer League (NSL) name. The season began in May, 1982 and concluded in late October, 1982 with the NSL Championship final where Hamilton Steelers successfully defended their title against Toronto Italia in a two-legged series final. Toronto Italia would still achieve a double by producing a undefeated streak in order to claim the regular season title and the NSL Cup by defeating St. Catharines Roma.

Hamilton White Eagles was a soccer club based in Hamilton, Ontario. The club was formed in 1995 and competed in the Canadian National Soccer League (CNSL). After a single season in the CNSL the White Eagles departed and became a member in the Canadian International Soccer League (CISL). Though they returned to the CNSL for the 1997 season, but were suspended and ceased operations at the conclusion of the season.

The 1987 Canadian Soccer League season was the first season of play for the Canadian Soccer League, a new Division 1 men's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid.
