The BFI London Film Festival is an annual film festival held in London, England, in collaboration with the British Film Institute. The festival runs for two weeks every October. In 2016, the BFI estimated that around 240 feature films and 150 short films from more than 70 countries are screened at the festival each year.
The Sutherland Trophy was created in 1958 by the British Film Institute (BFI) as an annual award for "the maker of the most original and imaginative [first or second] feature film introduced at the National Film Theatre during the year". Glory is a 2016 Bulgarian drama film written and directed by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov. The second film in the directors' "newspaper-clippings trilogy", the film is a social-realist parable exploring the themes of corruption, class differences, and the rural-urban divide, in contemporary Bulgarian society. It was selected as the Bulgarian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
A Blast, is a 2014 film directed by Syllas Tzoumerkas about a woman's disillusionment and revolt in the frame of the Greek financial crisis. The film stars Angeliki Papoulia, Vassilis Doganis, Maria Filini, Themis Bazaka, Makis Papadimitriou and Yorgos Biniaris.

Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash is a 2021 Indonesian action black comedy-drama film directed by Edwin who also co-wrote the screenplay with Eka Kurniawan based on Kurniawan's best-selling book of the same name. The film had its world premiere in August 2021 at the 74th Locarno Film Festival, where it won the top prize of Golden Leopard for Best Film.
The Echo is a 2023 Mexican-German docufiction film directed by Tatiana Huezo. The film, which also includes fictional elements, portrays the children of an isolated village "El Echo", in the Mexican highlands. The film is co-produced by Germany, and was selected to receive its world premiere in the Encounters section of the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, on 17 February 2023. On December 7, it appeared in the eligible list for consideration of Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film for the 96th Academy Awards.
Tótem is a 2023 drama film written and directed by Lila Avilés. The film depicts the story of seven-year-old Sol, who is spending the day at her grandfather's home, for a surprise party for Sol's father, Tonatiuh. As daylight fades, Sol comes to understand that her world is about to change dramatically. It was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, where it had its world premiere on 20 February 2023. It is a co-production between Mexico, Denmark and France.
Love, Dad is a Czech/Slovak animated short documentary film, directed by Diana Cam Van Nguyen and released in 2021. The film centres on her relationship with her father, which was loving in her childhood but became strained and distant as she grew into adulthood.
Apolonia, Apolonia is a 2022 documentary film directed by Lea Glob. The film is a coming-of-age story of a girl, who finds her place in the art world, narrated through 13 years. The film produced by Danish Documentary Production, HBO Max Central Europe and Staron Film won the IDFA Award for Best Film at the 35th International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in international competition in November 2022. It was one of the 15 finalist films in the December shortlists for Best Documentary Feature at the 96th Academy Awards.

Shambhala is a 2024 drama film directed by Min Bahadur Bham from a screenplay written by Bham and Abinash Bikram Shah. Starring Thinley Lhamo, Tenzin Dalha and Sonam Topden. Shambhala is the most expensive movie of Nepal made on the budget रू15 crore (US$1.1 million). It was selected in the Competition at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Bear. The film narrates the life trajectory of a Tibetan female refugee who is feeling the brunt in search of her missing husband, a task which she has to do it amidst being pregnant under challenging precarious circumstances.
Cidade; Campo is a 2024 drama film directed by Juliana Rojas. Starring Fernanda Vianna, Mirella Façanha and Bruna Linzmeyer, the film tells two tales of migration between the city and the countryside. In first tale: Joana moves to São Paulo and tries to restart her life, after a disaster floods her land. In the second tale: Flavia moves to farm in the country with her wife Mara, following the death of her estranged father.
The 77th Locarno Film Festival was held from 7 August to 17 August 2024. The Crowd by King Vidor, accompanied by live music from the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, screened the night before the festival began, and The Flood by Gianluca Jodice opened the festival.

The Sparrow in the Chimney is a Swiss drama film, directed by Ramon Zürcher. The film, starring Maren Eggert, Britta Hammelstein, Andreas Döhler, Luise Heyer and Milian Zerzawy, is the third part of a trilogy about family life, after The Strange Kitten and The Girl and the Spider, which the director created together with his twin brother Silvan Zürcher. The film follows two adult siblings who come together with their respective families in their parents' house in Switzerland to celebrate a birthday.
Red Path is a drama film, directed by Lotfi Achour and released in 2024. Based on a true story, the film stars Ali Helali as Ashraf, a young boy who is exploring Tunisia's Mghila Mountain with his older cousin Nizar when the boys are set upon by jihadist terrorists, who kill Nizar and force Ashraf to walk back home alone with Nizar's severed head as a warning to their community.
Queendom is a 2023 American-French documentary film, directed and co-written by Agniia Galdanova. It portrays the Russian performance artist Gena Marvin, who attracts the attention of the public and the government of her country with her provocative works, in which she transforms her own body into gigantic, menacing silhouettes.
