Egypt, represented by the Egyptian Olympic Committee, competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece from 13 to 29 August 2004. 97 competitors, 81 men and 16 women, took part in 48 events in 17 sports. Egypt's anthem, Bilady, Bilady, Bilady was played when Egypt won a gold medal.
The 1998 African Cup of Nations in Burkina Faso was the 21st edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (ACN), the national football championship of Africa, administered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Just like in 1996, the field of sixteen teams was split into four groups of four. Egypt won its fourth ACN championship, beating South Africa in the final 2–0.
The 3rd All-Africa Games, alson known as Algiers 1978 was a multi-sport event played from 13 to 28 July 1978, in Algiers, Algeria. 45 countries from 49 independent African countries participated in twelve sports.
The 4th All-Africa Games, also known as Nairobi 1987, were played from 1 to 12 August 1987, in Nairobi, Kenya. 42 countries participated in fourteen sports.
The 9th All-Africa Games, also known as Algiers 2007, took place from 11 to 23 July 2007 in Algiers, the capital city of Algeria. Algiers became the first city to hold All-Africa Games for a second time. The 1978 All-Africa Games were also held there. Besides Algeria, only Nigeria had hosted the event twice, but with different host cities. 4,793 athletes from 52 nations took part in the 2007 Games.
Raed Chabab Kouba, known as RC Kouba or simply RCK for short, is an Algerian football club based in Kouba, a district of Algiers. The club was founded in 1945 and its colours are green and white. Their home stadium, Mohamed Benhaddad Stadium, has a capacity of some 10,000 spectators. The club is currently playing in the Algerian Ligue 2.

The 2011 African U-23 Championship was the first edition of the football tournament for players under 23 years. It was originally scheduled to be hosted by Egypt from 26 November to 10 December 2011. However, less than two months prior to the start of the tournament, Egyptian authorities decided against hosting the competition because of security concerns. On 13 October 2011, Morocco was chosen as the replacement to host the tournament.

The 2004 African Men's Handball Championship was the 16th edition of the African Men's Handball Championship, held in Cairo, Egypt, from 8 to 18 April 2004. It acted as the African qualifying tournament for the 2005 World Championship in Tunisia.
The 2006 African Men's Handball Championship was the 17th edition of the African Men's Handball Championship, held in Tunis and Radès, Tunisia, from 10 to 20 January 2006. It acted as the African qualifying tournament for the 2007 World Championship in Germany.
Somalia competed at the 2019 African Games held from 19 to 31 August 2019 in Rabat, Morocco. In total, athletes representing Somalia competed in three sports and did not win any medals.
The 2022 African Men's Handball Championship was the 25th edition of the African Men's Handball Championship, held from 11 to 18 July 2022 in Egypt. It acted as the African qualifying tournament for the 2023 World Men's Handball Championship in Poland and Sweden. Originally it was scheduled to be held in Morocco from 13 to 23 January 2022.
Algeria competed at the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria over 10 days from 25 June to 5 July 2022 with delegation of 522 persons, including 293 men and 182 women. The country finished the Games with 53 medals amongst all nations: 20 gold, 17 silver, and 16 bronze. This is the best participation in the history of Algeria, breaking the number of the 2001 Mediterranean Games. The sports with the most medals were Athletics, Karate and Boxing. The first medals Algeria earned were in Karate, where Algeria won six medals, including four golds by Cylia Ouikene, Louiza Abouriche and Chaima Midi for women's and Oussama Zaid for men's. In Boxing, Algeria participated with fifteen men's and women's boxers, 13 of whom won medals including five golds through Jugurtha Ait Bekka, Roumaysa Boualam, Hadjila Khelif, Imane Khelif and Yahia Abdelli. The third specialty in terms of medals is strong Athletics with a total of 13 medals, including five golds, by Bilal Tabti in 3000 m steeplechase, Yasser Triki in Triple jump, Bilel Afer in high jump, Djamel Sedjati in 800 m and finally the Men's 4×400 m relay team.
