The 6th All-Africa Games were played from 13 to 23 September 1995 in Harare, Zimbabwe. 46 countries participated in eighteen sports.
Egypt, which is represented by the Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC), competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States from July 19 to August 4, 1996. Twenty-nine Egyptian athletes, twenty-seven men and two women, competed in boxing, handball, judo, rowing, shooting, swimming, weightlifting, and wrestling, but the nation did not win any medals.
Gregg Clark is a field hockey player from South Africa, who was a member of the national squad that finished tenth at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He was also present at the Atlanta Games in 1996. The midfielder played for Durban, and a provincial team called KwaZulu Natal Raiders. He is also the most capped South African national hockey player with 250 caps and 42 goals.

Philip Spies is a retired South African javelin thrower. Formerly a provincial cricketer at school and country district level, chose athletics over cricket due to bias and politics in local cricket. South African Schools champion at 17 years and National Schools Athletics Team. Versatile sportsman who played ont the SA Tennis Union circuit in 1990/ 1991 and reached a best golf handicap of 05 in 2000.
The men's tournament was one of two handball tournaments at the 1976 Summer Olympics. It was the third appearance of a men's handball tournament as a medal event at the Olympic Games, after 1936 and 1972.
