Bắc Ninh is a province of Vietnam, located in the Red River Delta of the northern part of the country. It is the smallest province of Vietnam by area and is situated to the east of the nation's capital, Hanoi, and borders Bắc Giang province, Hưng Yên province, Hải Dương province and Hanoi. The province covers an area of 822.71 square kilometres and as of 2022 it had a population of 1.488.250. The province's name literally means "northern serenity".
The 2009 Asian Indoor Games, officially the 3rd Asian Indoor Games and also known as Vietnam 2009, were a pancontinential indoor multi-sport event held in Vietnam from 30 October till 8 November 2009. This was the last edition of the event to be held under the "Asian Indoor Games" name before it was merged with another Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) event – Asian Martial Arts Games to form the larger Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
Cẩm Phả is a city of Quảng Ninh Province in the north-east region of Vietnam. It is an important coal exporting port of Vietnam. As of February 2012, the city had a population of 195,800. The city covers an area of 486 km2. The city was promoted from Cẩm Phả District by February 2012. Cẩm Phả was the site of one of the biggest coal mines in south of Asia which has been exploited for almost a century. The coal mine featured on a special commemorative Vietnam stamp in March 1959. Coal still forms the basis of Cẩm Phả's local economy, with other industries including quarrying, lime production, port, agriculture, forestry and fisheries.

Volleyball at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games took place in Quảng Ninh, Vietnam from 13 to 22 May 2022. The 2021 Games featured competitions in four events. The indoor volleyball competition took place at Đại Yên Arena, and the beach volleyball competitions were held at Tuần Châu Resort. All events were free-entry for spectators.
The women's football tournament at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games was held from 9–21 May 2022 in Vietnam. Seven Southeast Asian nations participated in the women's tournament. All matches were played in Quảng Ninh. There was no age limit for this tournament. Indonesia withdrew from the competition after the draw. Malaysia withdrew from the competition before the draw. Timor-Leste did not take part in the competition.
Beach handball men's tournament at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games is scheduled to be held from 6 to 11 May 2022 in Hạ Long, Quảng Ninh, Vietnam. There are four participating teams. A double round robin format was adopted.
