The Harvard Association for Law & Business (or HALB) is a student organization at Harvard Law School that connects students with business leaders. [1]

Contents

Overview

HALB hosts panels and events that explore issues in the business world, especially as they intersect with the law. The organization also creates opportunities for members to meet like-minded students and practitioners and supports HLS students who are interested in non-legal business careers. [2]

For instance, 2015-16 President, Alexander Rienzie, hosted fireside chats with Skybridge Capital Founder, Anthony Scaramucci, [3] and former Pfizer CEO, Jeff Kindler, [4] among others. In past years, HALB hosted panels featuring Vinson & Elkins, [5] Burford Capital, [6] Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, The Carlyle Group, Silverwood, [7] K&L Gates, [8] and Sullivan & Cromwell, [9] among many others.

The Harvard Law Review is a law review published by an independent student group at Harvard Law School. According to the Journal Citation Reports, the Harvard Law Review's 2015 impact factor of 4.979 placed the journal first out of 143 journals in the category "Law". It is published monthly from November through June, with the November issue dedicated to covering the previous year's term of the Supreme Court of the United States.

The Harvard Law Record is an independent student-edited newspaper based at Harvard Law School. Founded in 1946, it is the oldest law school newspaper in the United States.

First City Tower, located at 1001 Fannin, is a skyscraper in downtown Houston, Texas. The building rises 662 feet (202 m) in height. Completed in 1981, it contains 49 floors. First City Tower currently stands as the 14th-tallest building in the city. The architectural firm who designed the building was Morris-Aubry, and was built by W. S. Bellows Construction Corporation. The structure is an example of late-modernist architecture. The tower, which formerly housed the headquarters of the now-defunct First City National Bank, now serves as the global headquarters of Waste Management, Inc, and the headquarters of Vinson & Elkins. It also houses the U.S. headquarters of Campus Living Villages.

The Harvard Graduate Council(HGC) (formerly known as the "HGSG" [defunct]), and originally founded as the HGC is the centralized student government organization for the twelve graduate schools of Harvard University. Representing the interests of more than 15,000 Harvard graduate students, HGC is responsible for advocating student concerns to the University administrators, including the President of Harvard University, as well as the Provost and the Deans. HGC is also tasked with organizing large university-wide initiatives and events, managing and providing funding for university-wide student groups (USGs), as well as representing the Harvard graduate student population during conferences with other Ivy League universities and external organizations. In addition, HGC collaborates with its undergraduate counterpart, the Harvard Undergraduate Council (UC). The HGC Seal is formed by 13 different Harvard seals. At the center is the main Harvard University seal, which itself is surrounded by the 12 smaller seals of individual graduate schools.

Carol Eggert Dinkins is an American attorney. Under President Ronald Reagan, Dinkins served as the Assistant Attorney General of the Land and Natural Resources Division at the Department of Justice, and later the 20th United States Deputy Attorney General. Under President George W. Bush, Dinkins chaired the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board.

Maryana Iskander is an Egyptian-born American social entrepreneur and lawyer. In 2022, she became the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Wikimedia Foundation, succeeding Katherine Maher. Prior to her position, Iskander was the CEO of the Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator and a former chief operating officer of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America in New York.

Albert Bourla is a Greek-American veterinarian and businessman known for serving as the chairman and chief executive officer of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. He joined the company in 1993 and has held several executive roles across Pfizer's divisions. Prior to becoming chief executive officer, Bourla was chief operating officer.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">George Peddy</span> Texas lawyer, military officer, and politician

George Peddy was an American attorney, military officer, and political figure from Texas. A 1920 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, he practiced law in Houston with the prominent firm of Vinson, Elkins, Weems, and Francis. A Democrat, He served in the Texas House of Representatives in 1917 and ran two high-profile but unsuccessful campaigns for the United States Senate. A United States Army veteran of World War I and World War II, he attained the rank of lieutenant colonel while serving with the 5th Infantry Division in France during the Second World War, and received the Bronze Star Medal and Croix de Guerre.
