Series four of the UK version of Hell's Kitchen began on 13 April 2009 [1] and finished on 27 April 2009.
Hell's Kitchen was a British cookery reality show, aired on ITV, which features prospective chefs competing with each other for a final prize. Four series aired between 2004 to 2009, three presented by Angus Deayton and the most recent by Claudia Winkleman.
Angus Deayton did not return to present the show. [2] The reason given for Deayton's dismissal was because he was involved in a series of disputes with head chef Marco Pierre White. [3] Pierre White has discussed the reasons for his disagreements with Deayton, he commented that "His humour was forced, and negative. I would be working hard and he would be making jibes at where I came from and my name". [4]
Gordon Angus Deayton is an English actor, writer, musician, comedian, and broadcaster. He was the original presenter of the satirical panel game Have I Got News for You, a job from which he was dismissed in October 2002 after a second round of tabloid allegations about his personal life. He was also the host of British panel show Would I Lie To You? from 2007–2008.
Marco Pierre White is a British chef, restaurateur, and television personality from Leeds. White has been dubbed the first celebrity chef, and the enfant terrible of the UK restaurant scene. He was called the godfather of modern cooking by Australian MasterChef. White was the youngest chef ever to have been awarded three Michelin stars. He has trained notable chefs such as Mario Batali, Gordon Ramsay, Curtis Stone and Shannon Bennett.
In March 2009 Claudia Winkleman, whom Marco Pierre White has described as "naturally funny", [4] was confirmed as the new host. [5]
Claudia Anne Winkleman is an English television presenter, model, film critic, radio personality, and journalist. Between 2004 and 2010, she presented Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on weeknights on BBC Two. Since 2010, she has co-presented Strictly Come Dancing's main results show on Sunday nights with Tess Daly on BBC One and since 2014 has been a main co-host alongside Daly on the Saturday night live shows, following the departure of Sir Bruce Forsyth. She has twice been nominated for the British Academy Television Award for Best Entertainment Performance for her work on Strictly Come Dancing.
Marco Pierre White returns as Head Chef/teacher for the second series running. He particularly stated in the first episode that he was "the only chef to return".
The eight celebrities taking part in this year's show were confirmed in April 2009: [6] [7]

He was part of the alternative comedy boom in the early 1980s and had roles in the television series The Young Ones (1982–84) and Bottom (1991–95), which he wrote together with his long-time collaborative partner Rik Mayall. Edmondson also appeared in The Comic Strip Presents... series of films throughout the 1980s and 1990s. For one episode of this he created the spoof heavy metal band Bad News, and for another he played his nihilistic alter-ego Eddie Monsoon, an offensive South African television star.

The longevity of Blue Peter has established itself as a significant part of British culture. It was broadcast mainly from BBC Television Centre in London until September 2011, when the programme moved North to MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester. The show has also had a garden in both locations, known as the Blue Peter Garden, which is used during the summer and for outdoor activities. The programme has always featured a number of pets that became household names, such as dogs Petra, Shep, and Goldie, as well as other animals such as tortoises, cats, and parrots.
Unlike in past series, this year there is only one kitchen being used in the show.
In another change from previous series, White decides at the end of each night's service who will be a waiter in the next night's service, based on the celebrities' performances in the kitchen that night. Below is a chart showing the waiters for each night's service:
Episode | Episode 1 | Episode 2 | Episode 3 | Episode 4 |
---|---|---|---|---|
Waiters | Adrian | Jody | Danielle | Bruce |
Linda | Grant | Anthea | Niomi |
In previous series the viewers have decided who is eliminated from the show. This year, head chef Marco Pierre White decides who is eliminated, until there are four left. The viewers decide who wins out of the top four.
