The Ohio State University, commonly referred to as Ohio State or OSU, is a large public research university in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1870 as a land-grant university and the ninth university in Ohio with the Morrill Act of 1862, the university was originally known as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College (Mech). The college began with a focus on training students in various agricultural and mechanical disciplines but it developed into a comprehensive university under the direction of then-Governor Rutherford B. Hayes, and in 1878 the Ohio General Assembly passed a law changing the name to "The Ohio State University". It has since grown into the third-largest university campus in the United States. Along with its main campus in Columbus, Ohio State also operates regional campuses in Lima, Mansfield, Marion, Newark, and Wooster.
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is an honor society established in 1897 to recognize and encourage superior scholarship without restriction as to area of study and to promote the "unity and democracy of education". It is the fourth academic society in the United States to be organized around recognizing academic excellence, and is the oldest all-discipline honor society. The society's motto is Φιλοσοφία Kρατείτω Φωτῶν, which is translated as "Let the love of learning rule humanity", and its mission is "to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."

Haley Farm State Park is a public recreation area that preserves Colonial-era farmland as open space in the town of Groton, Connecticut. The site of the state park once formed part of the lands granted to Governor John Winthrop and later became a dairy farm. The park's 267 acres (108 ha) are connected to the adjacent Bluff Point State Park by way of a pedestrian bridge over railroad tracks. Park activities are restricted to bicycling and walking. The park is managed by Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Juan E. Gilbert is an American computer scientist, researcher, inventor, and educator. A staunch advocate of diversity in the computing sciences, Gilbert's successful efforts to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in the computing disciplines have been recognized by professional engineering organizations and the United States government. In honor of both his accomplishments and his service to the university, Gilbert was awarded the first Presidential Endowed Chair at Clemson University on November 9, 2012. As a result of Dr. Gilbert's efforts, in 2012, Clemson was home to 10% of the African American computer science professors, and 10% of the African American computer science doctoral students in the United States. In 2014, Dr. Gilbert left Clemson University and joined the Computer & Information Science & Engineering Department at the University of Florida where he serves as the Andrew Banks Family Preeminence Endowed Chair and the Chair of the department. Dr. Gilbert is the first African American chair of the Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering at the University of Florida.
