[3] It was selected to be screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. In High Society (Le Beau Monde), the story revolves around a young couple, Anna and Philippe, whose romance is tested by their differing social backgrounds. Anna is an aspiring artist from a modest background, while Philippe comes from a wealthy family. As they navigate their relationship, class distinctions and societal expectations create tension and conflict.
Anna struggles to find her place within Philippe’s elite social circle, facing judgment and prejudice from his family and friends. The film explores their attempts to reconcile their love with the challenges posed by their respective social standings, highlighting themes of ambition, love, and the pursuit of identity amidst societal pressures.
