Hong Kong Island is an island in the southern part of Hong Kong. It has a population of 1,289,500 and its population density is 16,390/km2, as of 2008. The island had a population of about 3,000 inhabitants scattered in a dozen fishing villages when it was occupied by the United Kingdom in the First Opium War (1839–1842). In 1842, the island was formally ceded in perpetuity to the UK under the Treaty of Nanking and the City of Victoria was then established on the island by the British Force in honour of Queen Victoria. The Central area on the island is the historical, political and economic centre of Hong Kong. The northern coast of the island forms the southern shore of the Victoria Harbour, which is largely responsible for the development of Hong Kong due to its deep waters favoured by large trade ships.

The Battle of Hong Kong, also known as the Defence of Hong Kong and the Fall of Hong Kong, was one of the first battles of the Pacific War in World War II. On the same morning as the attack on Pearl Harbor, forces of the Empire of Japan attacked the British Crown colony of Hong Kong, without declaring war against the British Empire. It is located on the south of Happy Valley, east of Causeway Bay, and west of Mid-Levels East, at an altitude of approximately 433 metres (1,421 ft). Nearby hills include Mount Nicholson, Violet Hill and Mount Butler. Administratively, it is part of Wan Chai District. It is also on north of Deep Water Bay and Black’s Link.

Mount Davis or Mo Sing Leng is an area surrounding and including the westernmost hill on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It is 269m tall. Home to mostly luxury residences, Mount Davis was originally settled after the construction of Victoria Road, Hong Kong by prominent Hong Kong families who were unable to live on Peak due to the zoning restriction in Peak District Reservation Ordinance, 1904.
Violet Hill, also known as Tsz Lo Lan Shan, is located within Tai Tam Country Park in Hong Kong. The hill is a popular site for hiking. The Hong Kong Government named three trails on the hill, namely Wilson Trail, Tsz Lo Lan Shan Path and Tai Tam Country Trail. Towards the top of the hill, it splits into three peaks of altitude 436 m (1,430 ft), 433 m (1,421 ft) and 430 m (1,410 ft). It offers beautiful views of Tai Tam Reservoir Group and Wong Nai Chung Reservoir. The hill is well preserved, with little construction on the hill. A rare and protected species, Hong Kong iris with violet flower can be found on the hill.

Crow's Nest is a hill north of So Uk in Cheung Sha Wan of New Kowloon in Hong Kong. It has a height of 194 metres and is located south of Eagle's Nest. It is one of the Eight Mountains of Kowloon.
Scenic Hill is a hill in Hong Kong. It is situated in Chek Lap Kok on Lantau, and stands at a height of 77 metres (253 ft) above the sea level. Today, Scenic Hill is the tallest point on Chek Lap Kok Island, which houses Hong Kong International Airport. In the 1990s, taller nearby mountains on Chek Lap Kok Island were bulldozed to make reclaimed-land for the airport.
