Aberdeen City Council is the local government authority for the city of Aberdeen, Scotland. It was created in 1996, under the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994, though a sense of Aberdeen as a city, with its own city council, can be traced back to 1900, when the county of the city of Aberdeen was created.
Aberdeen North is a burgh constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and it elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It was first used in the 1885 general election, but has undergone various boundary changes since that date.

It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. John West was Depute Provost of Aberdeen City Council from May 2007 until July 2009. He became the youngest person elected as a Local Authority councillor in Scotland on 3 May 2007 at the age of eighteen with the Scottish National Party. Woodside is part of the city of Aberdeen. It came into existence as a quoad sacra parish within the parish of Old Machar in 1834, under an act of The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland of 31 May 1834, and was named for the principal residence of the area, Woodside House.
