"iMusical" or "iMusical: The Improvised Musical!", is one of the premiere shows under regular production by Washington Improv Theater (WIT). Created by Travis Ploeger (I Eat Pandas, Chicago City Limits) in October 2006, this audience and critical favorite regularly performs at Flashpoint in Washington, DC. In the fall of 2008, they began performing in the Source Theater, along with the other WIT productions. In 2009, they did a series of shows at Cape May Stage, in Cape May, NJ.

Chicago City Limits (CCL), is the longest running improvisational theatre company in New York City, New York.

iMusical is an improvised musical, in which the cast of singing improvisers create all of the scenes and songs on-the-spot based on audience suggestion. They have performed to standing ovations at the Baltimore Improv Festival, the Philadelphia Improv Festival and the Del Close Marathon (Upright Citizens Brigade Theater), and in 2007 did a performance at the Kennedy Center. The Washington Post called the show "amusing," and "spot on," and gives it a coveted "star" recommendation when listed. [1] They are also a favorite of the DC Theater Scene site. [2]

Improvisational theatre, often called improvisation or improv, is the form of theatre, often comedy, in which most or all of what is performed is unplanned or unscripted: created spontaneously by the performers. In its purest form, the dialogue, action, story, and characters are created collaboratively by the players as the improvisation unfolds in present time, without use of an already prepared, written script.

The Groundlings Improv and theater group

The Groundlings are an improvisational and sketch comedy troupe and school based in Los Angeles, California. The troupe was formed by Gary Austin in 1974 and uses an improv format influenced by Viola Spolin, whose improvisational theater techniques were used by Del Close and other members of the Second City, located in Chicago and later St. Louis. They used these techniques to produce sketches and improvised scenes. Its name is taken from Shakespeare's Hamlet, Act III, Scene II: "...to split the ears of the groundlings, who for the most part are capable of nothing but inexplicable dumbshows and noise." In 1975 the troupe purchased and moved into its current location on Melrose Avenue.

Unexpected Productions (UP) is an improvisational comedy company in Seattle, Washington, USA. From their home at the Market Theater in Seattle's historic Pike Place Market, in Post Alley, Unexpected Productions produces year-round shows, teaches improv classes, and hosts the Seattle International Festival of Improvisation.

Spontaneous Broadway is an advanced long-form improvised performance, based on audience suggestions. The audience typically submits titles of songs that have never been written, and the performers choose suggestions to create songs, the audience votes through acclamation on their favorite song, which is then used as the core of a brand new Broadway musical.

Friday Nite Improvs

Friday Nite Improvs, or Friday Night Improvs (FNI), was a long-running weekly improvisational comedy show staged on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The show functioned as an improv jam, performed by improv actors who don't normally work together. FNI was unique in that, in addition to the audience's providing improv suggestions, the performers are all pulled from volunteers in the audience. FNI ended in 2014. A student improv group, Ruckus, has succeeded FNI as a resident improve group on the University of Pittsburgh's campus.

iO, or iO Chicago, is an improv theater and training center in central Chicago, with a former branch in Los Angeles called iO West. The theater teaches and hosts performances of improvisational comedy. It was founded in 1981 by Del Close and Charna Halpern. The theater has many notable alumni, including Amy Poehler and Stephen Colbert.

The Magnet Theater is an improvisational comedy theatre and improv school in New York City. It has shows seven nights a week, many of which are consistently selected as editor's pick of the week in Time Out New York and The Onion.

The San Francisco Improv Alliance

Started in 2005 by Shaun Landry, artistic director of Oui Be Negroes, The San Francisco Improv Alliance is a group of actors dedicated to Improvisational Theater. The Alliance offers performance opportunities to upcoming ensembles, stages self-produced shows, co-production of pre-established ensembles, master class workshops and national ensembles and community outreach in the field of improvisational theatre.

Mick Napier is an American director and improvisational theater teacher. He is the founder and artistic director of the Annoyance Theatre and a director at The Second City. The Un-Scripted Theater Company

Un-Scripted Theater Company is an improv theater company based out of San Francisco, California. Unlike most improv troupes, Un-Scripted Theater Company does not perform just one kind of improv format, but rather 4 to 7 runs of uniquely different improv formats each year. Each season is set up like a "normal" theater season with 4 to 8 week runs of shows, each with its own Director, format, and vision.

Jet City Improv is a Short Form Improvisation troupe that performs in the Seattle, Washington area. The troupe was founded in 1992 and is operated by Wing-It Productions.

The Fracas! Improv Festival is a three-day annual improvisational theatre festival held at The University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. The festival is hosted by Second Nature Improv, one of USC's improv troupes. In addition to performances, the festival hosts discussion panels with professional improvisers currently working in television, film, and/or theatre, as well as improv workshops. While the performances and panels are open to the public, workshops are available only to registered festival participants.

Whirled News Tonight is a weekly improvised satire that performs in the I.O. theater in Chicago, IL. It is the longest-running improvised show currently performing in Chicago.

The Improv is an improvisational comedy show which was started in May 2012 in Bangalore, India. The show has no script and is totally improvised, as its name suggests. The audiences give suggestions, situations and scenarios to the host and taking the cue, the actors create on-the-spot hilarious scenes on stage. It is hosted and directed by Saad Khan, an Indian filmmaker. The show is conceptualized by and Saad Khan. The show’s performers are Sal Yusuf, Darius Sunawala, Abel Mathews and Tim Schultz. The team has performed over 100 shows in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sweden. It is the only Indian team which was invited and selected to perform at the Sweden International Improv Festival in March 2016.

The New York Musical Improv Festival (NYMIF) is a four-day festival held every October at the Magnet Theater in New York City. The TENTH annual NYMIF runs October 18–21, 2018.
