The 1994 Idaho gubernatorial election was held on November 8, 1994 to select the governor of the U.S. state of Idaho. Cecil D. Andrus, the Democratic incumbent, chose not to seek reelection after a total of 14 years in office. Former state senator and Republican Party chair Phil Batt engineered a come-from-behind victory to defeat Democratic Attorney General Larry Echo Hawk. Batt's victory put the Idaho statehouse in Republican hands for the first time since 1970.

Lieutenant Governor of Idaho Butch Otter was considered a likely candidate for Governor but decided to run for re-election after being arrested for drink driving in August 1992. Otter went on to be elected Governor in 2006, though he publicly admitted that the incident could have ended his political career. [1] [2]

Clement Leroy "Butch" Otter is an American businessman and politician, who served as the 32nd governor of Idaho, from 2007 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he was elected in 2006, and reelected in 2010, and 2014. Otter served as lieutenant governor from 1987 to 2001 and in U.S. Congress from the first district from 2001 to 2007.

Philip Eugene Batt is an American author and former politician who served as the 29th Governor of Idaho, from 1995 to 1999. He is a member of the Republican Party.

Chuck Winder has been a Republican member of the Idaho Senate who represented the 14th District (2008-2012) and currently represents District 20. He is married to Dianne Winder; the couple has two children.

Larry Echo Hawk Attorney and legal scholar

Larry J. Echo Hawk is an attorney, legal scholar and politician. In 2012, he was named as a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On May 20, 2009, Echo Hawk joined the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama as the United States Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs. He previously served as the elected Attorney General of Idaho from 1991 to 1995, being the first Native American elected to that position. He also served two terms in the State House of Idaho.

Ron Beitelspacher is a former Democratic Idaho state senator. He finished second behind Larry EchoHawk in the 1994 Democratic primary for Governor of Idaho.

Campaign

Although at first many thought Echo Hawk would win the election and become the first Native American governor in the United States, Batt prevailed with an aggressive campaign and with the help of a Republican tide that was especially powerful in Idaho in 1994.

United States gubernatorial elections were held on November 2, 2010 in 37 states and two territories. As in most midterm elections, the party controlling the White House lost ground. Democrats did take five governorships from the Republicans, and Republicans took 11 governorships from the Democrats. An independent won one governorship previously held by a Republican. A Republican won one governorship previously held by an independent. Republicans held a majority of governorships for the first time since before the 2006 elections. The 1998 Idaho gubernatorial election was held on November 3, 1998 to elect the Governor of Idaho. Phil Batt, the Republican incumbent, chose not to run for a second term. The Republican nominee, United States Senator Dirk Kempthorne, handily defeated the Democratic nominee, former Idaho Supreme Court justice Robert C. Huntley, to keep the seat in GOP hands.

He won the 2018 gubernatorial election against Democratic nominee Paulette Jordan, the seventh straight for the Republican Party in Idaho.

Russell Mark Fulcher is an American politician, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Idaho's 1st congressional district. A Republican, he previously served in the Idaho Senate where he represented Legislative District 21 from 2005 to 2012 and Legislative District 22 from 2012 until 2014. Fulcher ran for the position of Governor of Idaho in 2014 but lost the nomination to incumbent Butch Otter. The 1998 Georgia gubernatorial election was held on November 3, 1998. Incumbent Democratic Governor Zell Miller was unable to seek re-election due to term limits, therefore creating an open seat. To replace him, State Representative Roy Barnes won the Democratic Party's nomination after a close and highly contested primary election, while businessman Guy Millner, who had run for Governor and the United States Senate in the previous four years, won the nomination of the Republican Party. In the general election, Barnes was able to defeat Millner by a margin of victory larger than Governor Miller's victory over Millner four years prior, which was in part due to the unpopularity and controversy of Mitch Skandalakis, the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. As of 2018, this is the most recent election in which a Democrat was elected Governor of Georgia.

1994 Iowa gubernatorial election

The Iowa gubernatorial election of 1994 took place November 8, 1994. Incumbent Republican Governor of Iowa Terry Branstad ran for re-election to a fourth term as governor. Branstad narrowly defeated a tough challenger in his primary election, emerging victorious by less than 12,000 votes. On the Democratic side, Attorney General of Iowa Bonnie Campbell won her party's nomination and both Branstad and Campbell moved on to the general election. Branstad ultimately won re-election to a fourth term as governor, defeating Bonnie Campbell by a comfortable margin.

Gayle L. Batt was a Republican Idaho State Representative representing District 11 in the A seat from 2012 to 2016 and District 10 Seat A from November 2011 to December 2012.

2014 Idaho gubernatorial election

The 2014 Idaho gubernatorial election was held on November 4, 2014, to elect the Governor of Idaho, concurrently with the election to Idaho's Class II U.S. Senate seat, as well as other elections to the United States Senate in other states and elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections.
