The Indie Book Awards are a group of awards presented annually by Australian Independent Booksellers. They were established in 2008 in order to recognise and reward the best in Australian writing, chosen by independent booksellers in Australia. [1]
As of 2024 [update] , there are six categories, with an overall winner chosen as Indie Book of the Year: [2]
From 2008 until 2015 the Children's and Young Adult books were included in the same category. In 2016 they were split into separate awards. [3] [4]
A longlist of titles is compiled and announced in December of each year and a shortlist (24 titles, four per category) are announced in late January. [5]

The British Book Awards or Nibbies are literary awards for the best UK writers and their works, administered by The Bookseller. The awards have had several previous names, owners and sponsors since being launched in 1990, including the National Book Awards from 2010 to 2014.

The Waterstones Children's Book Prize is an annual award given to a work of children's literature published during the previous year. Adrian McKinty is a Northern Irish writer of crime and mystery novels and young adult fiction, best known for his 2020 award-winning thriller, The Chain, and the Sean Duffy novels set in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. He is a winner of the Edgar Award, the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award, the Macavity Award, the Ned Kelly Award, the Barry Award, the Audie Award, the Anthony Award and the International Thriller Writers Award. He has been shortlisted for the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger and the Grand Prix de Littérature Policière.
Southern Book Prize is a literary award given by the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA). It was first awarded in 1999. Nominated books must be Southern in nature or by a Southern author, have been published the previous year, and have been nominated by a SIBA-member bookstore or one of their customers. Voting categories include fiction, Nonfiction, poetry, cooking and children's literature. In 2016, the award was renamed the Southern Book Prize and awarded in honor of southern writer Pat Conroy, who died in March 2016.
Heather Rose is an Australian author born in Hobart, Tasmania. She is the author of the acclaimed memoir Nothing Bad Ever Happens Here. She is best known for her novels The Museum of Modern Love, which won the 2017 Stella Prize and the Christina Stead Prize, and Bruny (2019), which won Best General Fiction in the 2020 Australian Book Industry Awards.
