Irakli Zhorzholiani

Irakli Zhorzholiani (born March 25, 1987) is a young Georgian politician and scientist. Currently he works as a director at the LEPL Children and Youth Development Fund of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia. For three years he was an intern at the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Parliament of Georgia. A recipient of special commendation for excellent education he served as a board member and the Head of International Relations at the Political Coalition - "Georgian Dream" Youth Movement, which successfully challenged the ruling United National Movement in the Georgian parliamentary election, 2012 and finally won the elections.

As a board member of the youth movement Irakli Zhorzholiani played prominent role within pre – election activities and hereby was the Special Commission Secretary of elections in Afghanistan (Helmand Province) where Georgian soldiers together with coalition forces make significant contributions to defeat Taliban regime.

Academic career

Born in 1987 in Tbilisi, he studied at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University specialized in History of Diplomacy and International Relations and went to do his master's degree in Sweden. Currently he holds the master's degree in history with the focus on European Studies from Malmö University (Sweden) in cooperation with Roskilde University (Denmark).

Irakli Zhorzholiani holds special commendation for excellent education and is the author of several publications, including his book United States of America – the highest form of empire? New vision of World Historical Development. This book is the product of philosophy of history focused on completely different vision of world historical development. The author employs multidisciplinary approach to represent theoretical discourse regarding rise and fall of empires in contrast to modern American empire and about the phenomena of new world order as well.

Moreover, the book attempts to answer to macro-philosophical and historical questions based on the classical studies of history, philosophy, political and social sciences. Herewith debates, among scholars concerning the real nature of history is still underway. Nevertheless, historians were unable to give precise answer how the exact nature of history looks like. Consequently, the research has ambitions to clarify the exact nature of history and thus to solve this problem thoroughly.

David Gamkrelidze or Davit Gamqrelidze is a Georgian politician, leader of the New Rights Party of Georgia, Member of Parliament since 1999, member of committee for defense and security, Chairman of the Centre-Right Opposition Group in the Parliament of Georgia. He also contested the 2008 Georgian presidential election and came fourth with the 4.02% of the votes cast.

Irakli Alasania Georgian politician and diplomat

Irakli Alasania is a Georgian politician, soldier and former diplomat who served as the Minister of Defense of Georgia from 2012 to 2014. He was Georgia's Ambassador to the United Nations from September 11, 2006, until December 4, 2008. His previous assignments include Chairman of the Government of Abkhazia(-in-exile) and the President of Georgia's aide in the Georgian-Abkhaz talks. Soon after his resignation, Alasania withdrew into opposition to the Mikheil Saakashvili administration, setting up the Our Georgia – Free Democrats party in July 2009. In 2012 Alasania was appointed Minister of Defense, a position he held until 2014.

Giorgi Ugulava

Giorgi "Gigi" Ugulava is a Georgian politician and the former Mayor of Tbilisi (2005–2013). He was one of the former leaders of the United National Movement (UNM) party and former close ally of the former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili. On 10 February 2020, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison. However, on May 15, President Salome Zourabichvili pardoned Ugulava.

History of Georgia (country)

The nation of Georgia was first unified as a kingdom under the Bagrationi dynasty by the King Bagrat III of Georgia in the early 11th century, arising from a number of predecessor states of the ancient kingdoms of Colchis and Iberia. The Kingdom of Georgia flourished during the 10th to 12th centuries under King David IV the Builder and Queen Tamar the Great, and fell to the Mongol invasion by 1243, and after a brief reunion under George V the Brilliant to the Timurid Empire. By 1490, Georgia was fragmented into a number of petty kingdoms and principalities, which throughout the Early Modern period struggled to maintain their autonomy against Ottoman and Iranian domination until Georgia was finally annexed by the Russian Empire in the 19th century. After a brief bid for independence with the Democratic Republic of Georgia of 1918–1921, Georgia was part of the Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic from 1922 to 1936, and then formed the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic until the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

The National Forum is a political party in Georgia established on December 15, 2006 by the former diplomat Kakha Shartava. He is the son of Zhiuli Shartava, a Georgian politician in Abkhazia, killed by the Abkhaz militias during the secessionist war in the region in 1993. Several veteran politicians such as Revaz Shavishvili, Irakli Melashvili and Gubaz Sanikidze also joined the party.
Party political council of the organizational members are: Kakhaber Shartava, Gubaz Sanikidze, Revaz Shavishvili, Irakli Melashvili, Nodar Javakhishvili and Irakli Gobejishvili. A leading Party member was economic expert Niko Orvelashvili who died on 15 January 2010.
The party advocates a parliamentary republic as a form of government in Georgia. Unlike most other Georgian political parties, it does not support Georgia’s aspiration to join NATO, and argues Georgia should be a "neutral country." The National Forum was a member of the United Opposition alliance which staged mass anti-government demonstrations in November 2007 and ran on an opposition ticket in the parliamentary election in May 2008. For the 2012 elections it was part of the Georgian Dream alliance that won the election against United National Movement. On April 3, 2016 National Forum left coalition after party convention, majority of members voted to leave Georgian Dream. In 2017, Nation Forum, together with Davit Usupashvili and other former members of Republican Party of Georgia found Development Movement.

2012 Georgian parliamentary election

Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on 1 October 2012. The opposition Georgian Dream coalition of billionaire businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili won a majority of seats. President Mikheil Saakashvili conceded his party's loss.

It was the leading party of the six-party Georgian Dream political coalition which won the 2012 parliamentary election.

He previously served as Prime Minister from November 20, 2013 until his resignation on 29 December 2015, and is a former business executive. Garibashvili entered politics with his long-time associate, the businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili, in October 2012.

In 2013, Georgia finalized its first-ever peaceful change of power and transition to a parliamentary republic. The Georgian Dream-dominated government, which came to power after defeating, in October 2012, the United National Movement led by the outgoing President Mikheil Saakashvili, promised more democratic reforms. The Georgian Dream candidate Giorgi Margvelashvili won the presidential election in October 2013 and the new constitution significantly reducing the authority of the president in favor of those of the prime minister and government came into effect. In November, the leader of the Georgian Dream, Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili announced his withdrawal from politics as promised earlier, and the Parliament of Georgia approved his nominee, Irakli Garibashvili, as the country's new head of government.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili is a Georgian politician who was Prime Minister of Georgia from 30 December 2015 to 13 June 2018.
