James Kendry (March 29, 1845 – November 4, 1918) was a woollen manufacturer and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Peterborough West in the House of Commons of Canada from 1896 to 1904 as a Conservative. [1]

Peterborough West was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1953. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867 which divided the County of Peterborough was into two ridings. The West Riding consisted of the Townships of South Monaghan, North Monaghan, Smith, and Ennismore, and the Town of Peterborough.
The House of Commons of Canada is a component of the Parliament of Canada, along with the Sovereign and the Senate. The House of Commons currently meets in a temporary Commons chamber in the West Block of the parliament buildings on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, while the Centre Block, which houses the traditional Commons chamber, undergoes a ten-year renovation.
He was born in Oshawa, Canada West and was educated there. Kendry was manager of the Clyde Woolen Mills in Lanark. [2] In 1879, he became manager of the Auburn Woollen Mills in Peterborough and later became an owner. [3] Kendry was mayor of Peterborough from 1892 to 1896. He was defeated when he ran for reelection to the House of Commons in 1904. [1] He died in Peterborough at the age of 73. [4]

Peterborough is a city on the Otonabee River in Central Ontario, Canada, 125 kilometres (78 mi) northeast of Toronto and about 270 kilometers (167 mi) southwest of Ottawa. According to the 2016 Census, the population of the City of Peterborough was 81,032. The population of the Peterborough Census Metropolitan Area (CMA), which includes the surrounding Townships of Selwyn, Cavan Monaghan, Otonabee-South Monaghan, and Douro-Dummer, was 121,721 in 2016. In 2016, Peterborough ranked No. 32 among the country’s 35 census metropolitan areas according to the CMA in Canada. Significant growth is expected starting in late 2019 when the Ontario Highway 407 extension is completed, connecting it to Highway 115/35 south of Peterborough. The current mayor of Peterborough is Diane Therrien.
