Jane Rouse (born 23 April 1946) is a British canoe sprinter who competed in the early 1970s. She was eliminated in the repechages of the K-1 500 m event at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.

She resigned on March 31, 2023 to return to teaching. On June 28, she was named the 9th President of the Brookings Institution.

The title comes from the Edgar Allan Poe short story "The Masque of the Red Death," in which the main character Prince Prospero and his fellow aristocrats try to escape the ravages of a plague known as the "Red Death" by locking themselves away from the outside world during a masquerade ball.
