Jens Holmboe was a Norwegian bailiff. He is notable for his role in the settling of Målselvdalen.

Målselvdalen is the largest valley in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The river Målselva runs through the valley, ending at the Målselvfjorden. The 60-kilometre (37 mi) long valley runs to the north, along with the river, and most of the residents of Målselv Municipality live in this valley.

Bernt Michael Holmboe was a Norwegian mathematician. He was home-tutored from an early age, and was not enrolled in school until 1810. Following a short period at the Royal Frederick University, which included a stint as assistant to Christopher Hansteen, Holmboe was hired as a mathematics teacher at the Christiania Cathedral School in 1818, where he met the future renowned mathematician Niels Henrik Abel. Holmboe's lasting impact on mathematics worldwide has been said to be his tutoring of Abel, both in school and privately. The two became friends and remained so until Abel's early death. Holmboe moved to the Royal Frederick University in 1826, where he worked until his own death in 1850.

Hans Olsen Holmboe was a senior military officer who came to Norway during 1716.

Storofsen - also referred to as Ofsen - was a flood disaster that struck eastern Norway in July 1789 during which 63 people vanished, thousands of houses were destroyed and thousands of livestock killed. The rivers Glomma and Gudbrandsdalslågen flooded their banks and the waters of Lake Mjøsa rose ten meters above their normal level.
