Jesse Te Ahukaramu Royal (born 22 March 1980) is a professional rugby league footballer from New Zealand who currently plays for the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs in the Newcastle Rugby League. He has previously played in the NRL for the Newcastle Knights and New Zealand Warriors. Royal's preferred rugby league position is prop forward.

Early years

Royal was born in Hamilton, New Zealand.^[1] He was a chef in the New Zealand Army and has played in the Bartercard Cup for the Central Falcons ^[1] and represented Waikato.^[3] He captained the 2003 New Zealand A tour of England.^[4]

Australia

Royal was signed by the Penrith Panthers which prompted a move to Australia in 2004 to play for the club's NSWRL Premier League team. In 2005 he joined the Newcastle Knights on a two-year deal, however he was not able to break out of Premier League. His form was good enough however to earn a new two-year deal which eventually led to his first grade debut in 2007. He went on to play 29 games for the Knights.

Warriors

In 2009, Royal initially decided to explore employment opportunities in the coalmine industry, whilst also playing for the Kurri Kurri club, in order to spend more time with his young family.^[5] However he later signed a two-year deal with the New Zealand Warriors that same year to provide injury cover for Evarn Tuimavave.^[1]^[6] He made his Warriors debut in round 2 of the 2009 NRL season against the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, scoring a try with his first touch of the ball.^[7]

Later years

Royal decided to retire after the 2010 NRL season and return to Newcastle resume his employment in the mining industry, and to play for local club Kurri Kurri Bulldogs.^[4]

Mason also played in the Super League for English club the Hull Kingston Rovers and French club, the Catalans Dragons. He also played rugby union in the Top 14 for French club RC Toulonnais. During his career Mason was involved in a number of controversial off-field incidents which have received media publicity due to his high profile in the NRL.

Nathan Frederick Cayless is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s, and has coached in the 2010s. He played at representative level for New Zealand (captain), and at club level in the National Rugby League (NRL) for the Parramatta Eels, for whom he was a long-time captain, as a prop. He captained the New Zealand national team to a Rugby League World Cup victory over Australia in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup, and coached at club level in the Intrust Super Premiership for the Wentworthville Magpies from 2016 to 2018.

George Ndaira is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s and the current head coach of the Newtown Jets. He played at representative level for Lebanon, and at club level in the National Rugby League (NRL) for the St. George Illawarra Dragons, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Newcastle Knights, as a hooker or halfback.

The 2006 NRL season was the 99th season of professional rugby league football in Australia and the ninth run by the National Rugby League. The lineup of teams remained unchanged from the previous year, with fifteen clubs competing for the 2006 Telstra Premiership. Throughout the 26 rounds of the regular season ten teams from New South Wales, two from Queensland and one each from Victoria, the ACT and New Zealand competed for the minor premiership. Eight of these teams qualified for the four-week finals series, with the Brisbane Broncos eventual victors over the Melbourne Storm in the grand final. Melbourne finished the regular season first so were awarded the minor premiership, but this was later revoked due to the Melbourne Storm salary cap breach.
