Music is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is sound organized in time. General definitions of music include common elements such as pitch, rhythm, dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. Different styles or types of music may emphasize, de-emphasize or omit some of these elements. Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou, known professionally as Vangelis, is a Greek musician and composer of electronic, progressive, ambient, jazz, and orchestral music. He is best known for his Academy Award-winning score to Chariots of Fire, also composing scores for the films Blade Runner, Missing, Antarctica, The Bounty, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, and Alexander, and the use of his music in the PBS documentary Cosmos: A Personal Voyage by Carl Sagan.
Aphrodite's Child was a Greek progressive rock band formed in 1967, by Vangelis Papathanassiou, Demis Roussos, Loukas Sideras, and Silver Koulouris (guitar). The band's career ended shortly after release of their most impactful album, 666, which has appeared on a number of lists of the top progressive or psychedelic albums of all time.

Nuclear Blast is an independent record label and mail order record distributor with subsidiaries in Germany, the United States and Brazil. The record label was founded in 1987 by Markus Staiger in Germany. Originally releasing hardcore punk records, the label moved on to releasing albums by melodic death metal, grindcore, industrial metal, power metal and black metal bands, as well as tribute albums. It also distributes and promotes two post-hardcore/metalcore labels, SharpTone Records, focused on American scene, and Arising Empire, focused more on European bands such as Novelists, Imminence, Cold Snap and While She Sleeps.
ONE was a boy band that first appeared in 1999, recognized as both Greece and Cyprus's very first boy band. The band was formed by leading Cypriot-Greek composer Giorgos Theofanous and Minos EMI A&R Manager Vangelis Yannopoulos. Constantinos Christoforou and Phiippos Constantinos were on board quite early, chosen by Giorgos Theofanous. The next three members were picked up after a selective audition that took place in legendary Athenian Sierra Studio. The selecting committee consisted of Natalia Germanou, Posidonas Yannopoulos, Andreas Kouris, Themis Georgandas, Theofanous and Yannopoulos. Demetres Koutsavlakis, Argyris Nastopoulos and Panos Tserpes were retained among 179 candidates. Christoforou followed a solo career in 2003, and was replaced by another Cypriot singer, Demos Beke. In 2005 the band formally disbanded. In their 6-year existence they enjoyed much commercial success and earned platinum certifications, as well as having staged memorable performances with successful Greek singers at music halls and in concerts.

"Misirlou" is a song from the Eastern Mediterranean region. The earliest known recording of the song is a 1927 Greek rebetiko / tsifteteli composition influenced by Middle Eastern music. There are also Arabic, Armenian, Persian, Indian, and Turkish versions of the song. This song was very popular from the 1920s in the Greek American and Armenian American communities who settled in the United States of America as part of the Ottoman Empire diaspora.

Plain White T's are an American rock band from Lombard, Illinois, formed in 1997 by high school friends Tom Higgenson, Dave Tirio, and Ken Fletcher. They were joined a short time later by Steve Mast. The group had a mostly underground following in Chicago basements, clubs, and bars in its early years.
Chrisavgi (Kristi) Stassinopoulou is a Greek singer, lyricist, and fiction writer. A native Athenian, she is an internationally known artist of the world music circuit. She is accompanied by composer, arranger, co-producer and multi-instrumentalist Stathis Kalyviotis. Their music combines traditional Greek rhythms and sounds, Byzantine vocal lines, rebetiko music, psychedelic rock, ambience and electronica.

Greece took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011, held between 10 and 14 May 2011, placing seventh. On 2 March 2011, as part of the selection process organized by the Greek national broadcaster Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), six competing acts—Antigoni Psihrami, Kokkina Halia, Loukas Giorkas, Nikki Ponte, Trimitonio, and Valanto Trifonos—performed their prospective entries live during a televised event. "Watch My Dance" was selected to represent Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest by a combination of a public televote and panel of judges. At the contest, it placed first in the first semi-final and seventh in the final marking Greece's eighth top ten placing in as many years.

Koza Mostra is a Greek rock band founded by Ilias Kozas in 2011. It consists of Ilias Kozas, Stelios Tsompanidis, Tasos Korkovelos, Dimitris Christonis, Tasos Gentzis and Petros Lagontzos. The band fuses ska, punk, and rock music together with the style of traditional greek folk music such as Macedonian Greek music and rebetiko. They are also known for performing in kilts or fustanella.
Argo is a Greek band that represented Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden, singing "Utopian Land". Their previous name was "Europond" but they changed it for their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. They performed "Utopian Land" on the first semi final of Eurovision on May 10, 2016 but failed to qualify to the May 14 final. This was the first time since the semi finals were introduced in 2004 that Greece had failed to reach the final.
