Dragons RFC are one of the four professional rugby union regional teams in Wales. They are owned by the Welsh Rugby Union and play their home games at Rodney Parade, Newport and at other grounds around the region. They play in the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup/European Rugby Challenge Cup. The region they represent covers an area of southeast Wales including Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen with a total population approaching 600,000 and they are affiliated with a number of semi-professional and amateur clubs throughout the area, including Pontypool RFC, Caerphilly RFC, Cross Keys RFC, Ebbw Vale RFC and Newport RFC.
Colin Charvis is a former captain of the Wales national rugby union team and also played for the British & Irish Lions. A back row forward, Charvis was equally adept as a flanker or as the no. 8.
Kevin Andrew Morgan is a Welsh former rugby union player. He won 48 caps for Wales, mainly at full back but also on the wing.
Marc Stcherbina is a retired Australian rugby union player who last played for Newport Gwent Dragons. He was educated at Sydney Boys High School, and then University Of New South Wales. He also played for the Waratahs, Northampton, and Cardiff Blues.
Aled Brew is a former Wales international rugby union player who played as a winger. He made his debut for the Wales national rugby union team against Ireland in the 2007 Six Nations Championship. In his career, as well as playing for Biarritz Olympique and Bath Rugby, he is one of only a handful of players to have played for all four top-level regional teams in Wales.
Lee Jarvis is a former international Welsh rugby union player who was known as a top points scorer with the boot. His career has been spent in both Wales and England including top level rugby in Wales and in the Celtic League, winning a number of trophies in both countries. He has represented Wales from school level to full international honours as well as being selected by the Barbarians. Despite being tipped as the "next best thing" during his early career and being a great points kicker Lee never gained more than a solitary cap for Wales at full international level. After retiring from rugby union as a player, Lee has taken up coaching. He is currently head coach at Beddau RFC.

Dan Lydiate is a Wales international rugby union player. A flanker, Lydiate was raised in Llandrindod Wells and is a product of the Newport Gwent Dragons academy.

Tom Cooper is an English rugby union footballer. A centre, he played for Bedwas RFC and the Newport Gwent Dragons regional team. Cooper made his debut for the Newport Gwent Dragons against Gloucester on 4 November 2010. He was released by Newport Gwent Dragons at the end of the 2010–11 Magners League. He then went on to play for the Cornish Pirates in the RFU Championship during the 2011-12 season, making 16 appearances. Tom signed to play for Jersey for the 2012-13 season, again in the RFU Championship.
Ian Nimmo is a Scottish rugby union player who plays as a lock forward. Nimmo moved to Perthshire, Scotland at the age of 14. He has been capped by Scotland at Under 19 and Under 20 levels and was included in the Scotland under 20 squad for the 2005 and 2009 Junior World Cups.
