Joseph I. Hutter (August 31, 1937 – April 18, 2015) was an American politician who was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. He represented the 82nd district. [1]

The Iowa House of Representatives is the lower house of the Iowa General Assembly, the upper house being the Iowa Senate. There are 100 seats in the Iowa House of Representatives, representing 100 single-member districts across the state, formed by dividing the 50 Senate districts in half. Each district has a population of approximately 30,464 as of the 2010 United States Census. The House of Representatives meets at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines.

He was born in Dubuque, Iowa, to Irvin and Marie Hutter (née Ryan). [1] He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1958, then moved to Bettendorf, where he worked as a police officer until he retired in 1994. Hutter was appointed to the board of Hawk-i, on which he served until his death in 2015. [2] [3]

hawk-i is a medical insurance program run by the U.S. state of Iowa. It provides health care coverage for low-income children of citizens and qualified aliens. It is designed to supplement Medicaid by covering children whose family's income is above the Medicaid limit but below the hawk-i limit.

William P. Bettendorf was a German-American inventor. He is credited with the invention of the power lift sulky plow, the Bettendorf metal wheel and the one-piece railroad truck frame. By the age of 53 he held 94 patents. With his younger brother, Joseph W. Bettendorf, he founded the Bettendorf Axle Company. His first wife and children preceded him in death. He died as the company was rapidly expanding and before he moved into a palatial home he was building. The city of Bettendorf, Iowa is named after the two brothers.

The Interstate Highway begins at an interchange with Interstate 80 (I-80) at the northeastern edge of Davenport and continues into Illinois at the Mississippi River by crossing the I-74 Bridge. The freeway was built in stages during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
