John Thomas Alsop Jr. (August 10,1874 –May 12,1958) was an American politician. He served as Mayor of Jacksonville,Florida,from 1923 to 1937,and again from 1941 to 1945. His eighteen-year,seven term stint in the mayor's office is the longest in the city's history. Jacksonville's Main Street Bridge,officially the John T. Alsop Jr. Bridge,is named for him.

The Mathews Bridge is a cantilever bridge in Jacksonville,Florida,which spans the St. Johns River. Constructed in 1953,the bridge brings traffic along the Arlington Expressway between downtown Jacksonville and the Arlington neighborhood. It was named after John E. Mathews,a Florida state legislator and Chief Justice of the 1955 Florida Supreme Court who helped gather funding for the bridge's construction. Originally silver in color,the bridge was painted maroon in 1984 in celebration of Jacksonville's United States Football League franchise,the Jacksonville Bulls.
John Wellborn Martin was an American politician who served as the 24th Governor of Florida,from 1925 to 1929. He also served as Mayor of Jacksonville,Florida,from 1917 to 1923. Born in Plainfield in Marion County,Florida,Martin and his family moved to Jacksonville in 1899. Despite only about four years of formal education,he studied law and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1914. Three years later,Martin ran for Mayor of Jacksonville and easily defeated incumbent J. E. T. Bowden,becoming the city's youngest mayor at age 32. He was easily re-elected twice in landslide victories and served three consecutive terms.
The Main Street Bridge,officially the John T. Alsop Jr. Bridge and nicknamed the Blue Bridge,is a bridge crossing the St. Johns River in Jacksonville,Florida. It was the second bridge built across the river. It carries four lanes of traffic,and is signed as US 1/US 90 (SR 5/SR 10). A lift bridge,it opened in July 1941 at a cost of $1.5 million. In 1957 it was named after Mayor John T. Alsop Jr.,but continues to be known,even on road signs,as the Main Street Bridge. It remains one of the most recognizable features of the Downtown Jacksonville skyline.

The Hotel George Washington,on the corner of Adams and Julia Streets in Jacksonville,Florida,was a 15-story luxury hotel that was in operation from 1926 to 1971. In its later years,it was one of only two luxury hotels in the downtown area. By the 1960s,it was the only five-star hotel in the area after the demise of the Hotel Roosevelt.

The Jacksonville Landing was a festival marketplace in Downtown Jacksonville,Florida,at the intersection of Independent Drive and Laura Street,along the Jacksonville Riverwalk. It was built by the Rouse Company for $37.5 million,opened in 1987,and officially closed after the 4th of July festivities in 2019. Demolition began about October 8,2019. The 126,000 square feet (11,706 m2) center was comparable to New York City's South Street Seaport,Boston's Faneuil Hall,and Miami's Bayside Marketplace,all developed by Rouse.
