The Liga Premier is the third tier of football in Mexico within the Mexican football league system that governs Serie A and Serie B leagues/group competitions. They compete from the fall to spring each season, promotion and relegation between each group, and promotion to Liga de Expansión MX and relegation to Liga TDP within the league system.
The Mexican football league system is organized by the Mexican Football Federation, except for the Liga MX and the Ascenso MX that are organized independently; The tournaments consist of five levels, male and female professional levels. In addition to having the Copa MX which is also organized independently to the FMF.
The Liga MX, officially known as the Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional football division in Mexico. Formerly known as the Primera División de México, it is contested by 18 clubs and is divided into two tournaments – "Apertura" and "Clausura"– which typically run from July to December and January to May. The champion of each tournament is decided via a playoff ("Liguilla") system. Since 2020, promotion and relegation has been suspended, which is to last until 2026.
The Copa MX was a Mexican football cup competition that was established in 1907. After a lengthy hiatus that began in 1997, it was restored in 2012. It is once again on indefinite hiatus since the 2019-20 edition. Early editions of the cup consisted of both professional and amateur stages. It was the first official tournament that included teams from different parts of Mexico and was considered a prestigious tournament, especially during its earlier years of existence. The original purpose of the competition was to determine a national champion, thus distinguishing it from the local league championship. Its format was different from the local leagues as well, as it employed direct elimination and culminated in a final that received much more fanfare than the local leagues.
Ascenso MX was the second tier of professional football in Mexico of the Mexican football league system. The champion of the competition was promoted to Liga MX. The bottom team was relegated to Liga Premier. It was sponsored by BBVA through its Mexican subsidiary BBVA, and was officially known as Ascenso BBVA MX.
Club de Fútbol Potros de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México was a Mexican football team. They were nicknamed Potros (Broncos). Their uniform color was white and green, wearing a white and green vertical stripe shirt for their home games. The club was founded in 1970 when the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico register its football squad in to the Tercera División de México under the name of Moscos de la UAEM. The club played in the Ascenso MX between 2016 and 2019. In December 2019, the team dissolved their Ascenso MX squad and only maintained the Liga TDP team until the end of the season, after this, the second squad was dissolved.
Atlético de San Luis is a Mexican professional football club based in San Luis Potosí, replacing San Luis Potosí's Liga MX team San Luis FC after its relocation. San Luis was promoted to Liga MX in 2019.
Alebrijes de Oaxaca Fútbol Club is a Mexican football team based in the city of Oaxaca, state of Oaxaca. They play in the second tier of Mexican football league, Liga de Expansión MX. The team was created when the Tecamachalco franchise won the Segunda División title and earned the promotion to the Ascenso MX. Due to poor infrastructure they were unable to participate, which led to the formation of the new Oaxaca franchise.

Club de Fútbol Cafetaleros de Chiapas is a Mexican football club based in the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas currently competing in Liga Premier de México, the third tier of Mexican football. Between 2015 and 2020, the team played at Ascenso MX, the second tier of Mexican football. On June 26, 2020, the club's first-team squad was relocated to Cancún and renamed as Cancún F.C., however, Cafetaleros de Chiapas kept the team registered in Liga Premier, which was affiliated with Cancún F.C. between 2020 and 2022.

Apertura began on 1 August 2019. On April 17, Liga MX President Enrique Bonilla announced the termination of the remainder of the Clausura 2020 tournament. Two reasons were the COVID-19 pandemic and the league's lack of financial resources.
The Liga de Expansión MX, officially known as Liga BBVA Expansión MX for sponsorship reasons, is a Mexican football league founded in 2020 as part of the Mexican Football Federation's "Stabilization Project", which has the primary objective of rescuing the financially troubled teams from the Ascenso MX and prevent the disappearance of a second-tier league in Mexico. The project also attempts for Liga MX and former Ascenso MX teams to consolidate stable projects with strong administration, finances, and infrastructure.
