Ary Scheffer was a Dutch-French Romantic painter. He was known mostly for his works based on literature, with paintings based on the works of Dante, Goethe, and Lord Byron, as well as religious subjects. He was also a prolific painter of portraits of famous and influential people in his lifetime. Politically, Scheffer had strong ties to King Louis Philippe I, having been employed as a teacher of the latter's children, which allowed him to live a life of luxury for many years until the French Revolution of 1848.

Jan Arends was a Dutch painter. He was the brother of the poet Roelof Arends. He was a pupil of J. Ponse, and painted landscapes and marine subjects. He laboured many years at Amsterdam and Middelburg, but returned eventually to Dordrecht, where he died in 1805. He was well skilled in perspective, and practised engraving.
Hubert van Ravesteyn was a Dutch painter of interiors and cattle, the son of Herman van Ravesteyn. He was born at Dordrecht in 1638 and died there between 1683 and 1691. He was married 22 December 1669 in Papendrecht to Catharina van Meurs, with whom he had 8 children. His pictures, signed with the monogram H.R., are painted in a brownish tone in the manner of Cornelis Saftleven, Hendrik Martenszoon Sorgh, and others. In his early pictures the painting is more carefully coloured.

Thomas Simon Cool, a Dutch historical and genre painter, was born at the Hague on 12 December 1831. He studied at the Hague Academy under J. E. J. van den Berg, and Baron Leys, and first distinguished himself by his 'Atala,' exhibited in 1853. He resided in Paris from 1857 to 1860, and in Antwerp from 1861 to 1865, then in Breda as a teacher from 1866 to 1870. He died at Dordrecht on 29 August 1870. Also known for "Zelfpotret", a self-portrait, "Boy and Dog in Stable" also known as "A Child feeding a dog", "A peasant girl harvesting", and "Child with Cat (1865)"
Leendert de Koningh, was a Dutch marine and landscape painter De Koningh was instructed by A. Vermeulen and M. Versteeg, and in 1801 came to England, but in 1803 was compelled to leave that country on account of the War of the Third Coalition. He then went to Paris, and studied under David. Thence he returned home by way of Germany. In 1816, he paid a second visit to England, but he basically spent the rest of his life in his hometown.
Isaac van Duynen was a Dutch Golden Age still life painter.
Adrianus Johannes Ehnle (1819-1863), a Dutch painter of historical and genre subjects, was born at the Hague in 1819, and studied under C. Kruseman. He died in 1863. Among his works are Cornelis de Witt at Dordrecht and The Reception of a Child at the Orphan House at Haarlem.
Roeland van Eynden was a Dutch painter. He was born at Nymegen in 1747, and died at Dordrecht in 1819. Like his brother he devoted but a portion of his time to painting, and is principally known by his works on art and artists, of which the most important is the Geschiedenis der Vaderlandsche Schilderkunst, written in conjunction with Van der Willigen, and published in 1816–1842.
Abraham van Strij (1753–1826) was an 18th-century painter from the Northern Netherlands.
