Kaunas is the second-largest city in Lithuania after Vilnius and an important centre of Lithuanian economic, academic, and cultural life. Kaunas was the biggest city and the centre of a county in the Duchy of Trakai of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Trakai Palatinate since 1413. In the Russian Empire, it was the capital of the Kaunas Governorate from 1843 to 1915.

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University, also referred to by its acronym AdZU is a private Catholic Coeducational basic and higher education institution run by the Philippines Province of the Society of Jesus in Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. AdZU began in 1912 as Escuela Catolica, a parochial school run by Spanish Jesuits. It is the second oldest Jesuit school in the Philippines and the second Jesuit school to be named Ateneo. It initially offered primary and secondary education for boys. It became a college in 1952 and a university in August 2001. It operates in three campuses. The main campus located in La Purisima Street, Zamboanga City is where the tertiary and senior high school departments are located and the annex campus in Barangay Tumaga, outside Zamboanga City proper, is where the junior high school and grade school units are located. The third and newest campus is the Lantaka Campus located in N. S. Valderroza St. Zamboanga City. This campus was a former resort hotel which was repurposed by the AdZU. It is now being used for educational, spiritual, religious, and social development purposes.

It is the founding school of the Cristo Rey Network and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. Cristo Rey Jesuit High School was established in 1996 and provides college-preparatory education. The school places students at entry-level jobs that cover some of their tuition costs.

Kaunas Priest Seminary is the largest seminary in Lithuania serving the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kaunas. It is part of the Faculty of Theology of Vytautas Magnus University. Its current rector is Aurelijus Žukauskas. As of 2007, the seminary had 35 students. It traces its history to 1622.

The House of Perkūnas is one of the most original and Gothic secular buildings, located in the Old Town of Kaunas, Lithuania. Originally built by Hanseatic merchants and served as their office from 1440 until 1532, it was sold in the 16th century to the Jesuits who had established a chapel there in 1643. The Jesuits have also completed the Church of St. Francis Xavier at the Town Hall Square in 1722.

The Church of St. Francis Xavier is located in the Old Town of Kaunas, Lithuania. The church, dedicated to St. Francis Xavier, was built in the Town Hall Square in the Old Town of Kaunas by Jesuits. The Jesuits opened their first residence in Kaunas in 1642 and established a chapel in the House of Perkūnas in 1643. Later they also founded a first four-form school in the city in 1649. The construction of the church started in 1666, and it was consecrated in 1722.
