The Karamay fire occurred on 8 December 1994 when the students were entertaining the visiting officials at a theatre in Karamay, Xinjiang, China. This fire remains the most notorious fire in China for the fact that the students were ordered to remain seated to allow the visiting officials to walk out first when the fire happened. The fire killed 325, including 288 schoolchildren.

The Kuytun–Altay Expressway, commonly referred to as the Kui'a Expressway, is an expressway that connects the cities of Kuytun and Altay in Xinjiang, China. The expressway is 527 kilometres (327 mi) in length, with a 135-kilometre long (84 mi) section between Kuytun and Karamay that is concurrent with the G3015 Kuytun–Tacheng Expressway. The entire expressway is part of Asian Highway 67.
The Kuytun–Tacheng Expressway, commonly referred to as the Kuita Expressway is an expressway that connects the cities of Kuytun and Tacheng in the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang. It is 368 kilometres (229 mi) in length. The expressway is a spur or auxiliary line of the G30 Lianyungang–Khorgas Expressway. In the southeastern end, it connects to the G30 Lianyungang–Khorgas Expressway at Kuytun. In the northwestern end, it terminates at Xinjiang Provincial Highway 221 in Tacheng, close to the Bakhtu border crossing on the China–Kazakhstan border.

The China University of Petroleum is a state Double First Class University in China. It consists of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), and China University of Petroleum (Huadong). Both are regarded as the best universities in China according to the QS World University Rankings by Subjects in "Petroleum Engineering" subjects. It is placed under the administration of the Ministry of Education. Both of China University of Petroleum - Beijing (CUP) and China University of Petroleum - Huadong (UPC) are Chinese state Double First Class Universities included in the Double First Class University Plan, approved by the central government of China.
The 7th Division is a division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) based in Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture and Karamay City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. It is an economic and paramilitary unit formed in 1953 from the former 25th Infantry Division of the 9th Army of the 22nd Corps of the PLA. The 7th Agricultural Construction Division of the XPCC was approved and renamed to the present 7th Division of the XPCC in 2012. The division is composed of 10 regiments and a direct managed farm, and headquartered in Kuytun City.
