John Leslie Prescott,Baron Prescott is a British politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007 and as First Secretary of State from 2001 to 2007. A member of the Labour Party,he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Kingston upon Hull East from 1970 to 2010. He was seen as the political link to the working class in a Labour Party increasingly led by modernising,middle-class professionals such as Tony Blair and Peter Mandelson and developed a reputation as a key conciliator in the often stormy relationship between Blair and Gordon Brown.
Humberside was a non-metropolitan and ceremonial county in Northern England from 1 April 1974 until 1 April 1996. It was composed of land from either side of the Humber Estuary,created from portions of the East Riding of Yorkshire,West Riding of Yorkshire,and the northern part of Lindsey,Lincolnshire. The county council's headquarters was County Hall at Beverley,inherited from East Riding County Council. Its largest settlement and only city was Kingston upon Hull. Other notable towns included Goole,Beverley,Scunthorpe,Grimsby,Cleethorpes and Bridlington. The county stretched from Wold Newton in its northern tip to a different Wold Newton at its most southern point.

The 2012 police and crime commissioner elections were polls held in most police areas in England and Wales on Thursday 15 November. The direct election of police and crime commissioners (PCCs) was originally scheduled for May 2012 but was postponed in order to secure the passage of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 through the House of Lords. It was triggered by the resignation of Shaun Wright,the inaugural South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner,who stepped down from the position on 16 September 2014 following the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal. Wright had been head of children's services in Rotherham between 2005 and 2010,while events surrounding the scandal were taking place. The Labour candidate,Alan Billings,was elected.

He was elected to the post on 5 May 2016,succeeding the previous incumbent,Alan Charles. He was defeated by the Conservative Party candidate Angelique Foster in the 2021 election.

Elections of police and crime commissioners in England and Wales were held on 6 May 2021,on the same day as the Senedd election in Wales and the local elections in England. This was the third time police and crime commissioner elections have been held. The elections were originally due to take place in May 2020 but were postponed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. They were therefore held in May 2021,a year later than originally scheduled. Turnout was an average of 33.2% across the elections,with Wales having much higher turnout.
