The 300 m rifle three positions event was one of five free rifle events of the competitions in the Shooting at the 1900 Summer Olympics events in Paris. They were held from August 3 to August 5, 1900. 30 shooters from 6 nations competed, with five shooters per team. Medals were given for individual high scores in each of the three positions, overall individual high scores, and the scores of the five shooters were summed to give a team score. The three positions event was won by Emil Kellenberger of Switzerland. Paul Van Asbroeck of Belgium took silver, while Ole Østmo of Norway earned bronze.

Emil Kellenberger of Walzenhausen was born April 3, 1864, to Emil Kellenberger. He was active as an embroidery draftsman, later operated a Rideaux manufacturing firm in Walzenhausen until 1903, and finally he managed a store. He belonged to the county council, the church administration, and the canton synod. As a boy, he enjoyed handling firearms. He would follow the adults' shooting practices, and was introduced to the art of shooting at St. Gallen as a member of the field shot organization. His greatest shooting successes were the 1898 champion at the shooting festival, two great championship awards at Aaran in 1924, and four world championships. He participated in Shooting at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris and won three olympic medals, two gold medals in the Military Rifle 3 positions and team categories and a silver medal in the Military Rifle (kneeling). However, his silver medal was tied with the Danish shooter Anders Peter Nielsen. The additional world championships were located in Lucerne in 1901, in Rome in 1902, and in Buenos Aires in 1903. Emil also published a book by the name of Schweizer Schuetzenfahrt nach Argentinien, more commonly known as Swiss Shooting Trip to Argentina.
Margrit Biever Mondavi (August 2, 1925 – September 2, 2016) was a Swiss-born American businesswoman. She was Vice President of Cultural Affairs at Robert Mondavi Winery which she joined in 1967. Under her direction, Robert Mondavi Winery developed original cultural and culinary arts programs. In 1980, she married Robert Mondavi and worked with him in many of his philanthropic activities including the founding of the museum Copia. Margrit played a key role in securing the downtown Napa location for the center, which opened in November 2001. She died of stomach cancer on September 2, 2016.

The district encompasses five contributing buildings, two contributing sites, and six contributing structures built between about 1921 and 1944. The landscape, designed and planted 1921–1944, includes the contributing Stone grottos, Curvilinear Pool, Open Picnic Area, Lake, Dam, Covered Picnic Area, Boathouse, and Swimming Pool. The Kellenberger House is a Colonial Revival style dwelling built in stages between about 1921 and 1944. At its core is a mid-19th century V-notched log house. Associated with the house are the contributing Log Outbuilding, Bungalow style Tenant House, and Chicken House.
