Kevin Scott Crawford (25 April 1970 - 2 December 2013) was a scholar of William Shakespeare and Thomas Middleton and a founding member of the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival.
Crawford was born in West Palm Beach,Florida,and attended Palm Beach Gardens High School. He received his BA and MA from Florida Atlantic University and his Ph.D. in Renaissance drama from the University of Alabama's Hudson Strode Program (2005),with Gary Taylor as his dissertation director. [1] He was appointed assistant professor of English at Reinhardt University,in Waleska,Georgia in 2007. In 1990 he was co-founder of the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival, [2] which produced "Shakespeare by the Sea"; [3] Crawford directed and performed at the festival annually,for 23 years, [4] in productions of plays by Shakespeare and Middleton. [5]
He has published in Medieval and Renaissance Drama in England , [6] Shakespeare Bulletin ,and Shakespeare Yearbook ,and was one of the editors for the online edition of Middleton's collected works,published by Oxford UP. [7] In 2010,2011 and 2012 he received faculty awards for his research and artistic performances. [8] [9] [10]
Crawford died,unexpectedly,in December 2013; [11] services were held at Reinhardt and in Stratford-upon-Avon;the Dr. Kevin Crawford Memorial Scholarship Fund was established at Reinhardt. [2] His cause of death was liver failure. [12]
Shakespearean tragedy is the designation given to most tragedies written by playwright William Shakespeare. Many of his history plays share the qualifiers of a Shakespearean tragedy,but because they are based on real figures throughout the history of England,they were classified as "histories" in the First Folio. The Roman tragedies—Julius Caesar,Antony and Cleopatra and Coriolanus—are also based on historical figures,but because their sources were foreign and ancient,they are almost always classified as tragedies rather than histories. Shakespeare's romances were written late in his career and published originally as either tragedy or comedy. They share some elements of tragedy,insofar as they feature a high-status central character,but they end happily like Shakespearean comedies. Almost three centuries after Shakespeare's death,the scholar F. S. Boas also coined a fifth category,the "problem play," for plays that do not fit neatly into a single classification because of their subject matter,setting,or ending. Scholars continue to disagree on how to categorize some Shakespearean plays.
Thomas Middleton was an English Jacobean playwright and poet. He,with John Fletcher and Ben Jonson,was among the most successful and prolific of playwrights at work in the Jacobean period,and among the few to gain equal success in comedy and tragedy. He was also a prolific writer of masques and pageants.
A Yorkshire Tragedy is an early Jacobean era stage play,a domestic tragedy printed in 1608. The play was originally assigned to William Shakespeare,though the modern critical consensus rejects this attribution,favouring Thomas Middleton.
The Revenger's Tragedy is an English-language Jacobean revenge tragedy which was performed in 1606,and published in 1607 by George Eld. It was long attributed to Cyril Tourneur,but "The consensus candidate for authorship of The Revenger’s Tragedy at present is Thomas Middleton,although this is a knotty issue that is far from settled."
David Martin Bevington was an American literary scholar. He was the Phyllis Fay Horton Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Humanities and in English Language &Literature,Comparative Literature,and the college at the University of Chicago,where he taught since 1967,as well as chair of Theatre and Performance Studies. "One of the most learned and devoted of Shakespeareans," so called by Harold Bloom,he specialized in British drama of the Renaissance,and edited and introduced the complete works of William Shakespeare in both the 29-volume,Bantam Classics paperback editions and the single-volume Longman edition. After accomplishing this feat,Bevington was often cited as the only living scholar to have personally edited Shakespeare's complete corpus.

Rod MacDonald is an American singer-songwriter,novelist,and educator. He was a "big part of the 1980s folk revival in Greenwich Village clubs",performing at the Speakeasy,The Bottom Line,Folk City,and the "Songwriter's Exchange" at the Cornelia Street Cafe. He co-founded the Greenwich Village Folk Festival,now a non-profit,and is still the President and co-producer of its events. He is perhaps best known for his songs "American Jerusalem",about the "contrast between the rich and the poor in Manhattan","A Sailor's Prayer","Coming of the Snow","Every Living Thing",and "My Neighbors in Delray",a description of the September 11 hijackers' last days in Delray Beach,Florida,where MacDonald has lived since 1995. His songs have been covered by Dave Van Ronk,Shawn Colvin,Four Bitchin' Babes,Jonathan Edwards,Garnet Rogers,Joe Jencks,and others. His 1985 recording "White Buffalo" is dedicated to Lakota Sioux ceremonial chief and healer Frank Fools Crow,whom he visited in 1981 and 1985,and who appears with MacDonald in the cover photograph. Since 1995 MacDonald has lived in south Florida,where his cd,"Later that Night" was named "Best Local Cd of 2014" by The Palm Beach Post and reached the top ten in national roots music charts. His first novel,The Open Mike,about a young man in the open mike scene of Greenwich Village,was published on December 5,2014,by Archway Publishing. On December 10,2020,MacDonald released his 13th solo recording,Boulevard, on Blue Flute Music. On April 14,2021,his second novel,The American Guerillas,was published by Archway Publications. On June 1,2023,MacDonald's 14th solo album,Rants And Romance,a collection of 14 new songs and 3 by other songwriters,was released by Blue Flute Music,charting in the top ten on national folk music charts during the summer.
The Southern Shakespeare Festival is an annual festival in Tallahassee,Florida organized by the Southern Shakespeare Company. The festival's first incarnation existed from 1995 to 2000. In 2012,a group of scholars saw an opportunity to revive the free outdoor festival at the award-winning Cascades Park.
Like most playwrights of his period,William Shakespeare did not always write alone. A number of his surviving plays are collaborative,or were revised by others after their original composition,although the exact number is open to debate. Some of the following attributions,such as The Two Noble Kinsmen,have well-attested contemporary documentation;others,such as Titus Andronicus,are dependent on linguistic analysis by modern scholars;recent work on computer analysis of textual style has given reason to believe that parts of some of the plays ascribed to Shakespeare are actually by other writers.

The Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival at the University of Notre Dame is an annual festival that seeks to combine professional productions of the works of William Shakespeare with community engagement and educational programs. The Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival is a part of the University of Notre Dame's Shakespeare initiative entitled "Shakespeare at Notre Dame",a program that recognizes the centrality of the study of Shakespeare in humanistic pedagogy at the University. Its fifteenth season was known as the 15/150,also celebrating the 450th birthday of William Shakespeare,and the 150th anniversary of the first full production of Shakespeare at the university in 1864. Thomas Creede was a printer of the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras,rated as "one of the best of his time." Based in London,he conducted his business under the sign of the Catherine Wheel in Thames Street from 1593 to 1600,and under the sign of the Eagle and Child in the Old Exchange from 1600 to 1617. Creede is best known for printing editions of works in English Renaissance drama,especially for ten editions of six Shakespearean plays and three works in the Shakespeare Apocrypha.
