Khem Singh Grewal (1894-1965) was an Indian pharmacologist. He worked at the King Edward Medical College in Lahore, and the Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh. He had varied research interests, including the study of medicinal plants. He participated in a large study of cancer incidence in India. He was key in founding pharmaceutic education at the University of Punjab in Lahore.

The initiation of pharmaceutical education in Punjab of undivided India was in 1944, when in King Edward Medical College at Lahore Dr. Khem Singh Grewal thought of starting the B. Pharm. degree course. Dr. Grewal who was Professor of Pharmacology in the medical college had been in association Col. R. N. Chopra at School of Tropical Medicine in Calcutta (now Kolkata) and with Dr. J. H. Burn at the London School of Pharmacy. [1] These associations had been instrumental in arousing his interest in pharmacy and promoting pharmacy education. Following the partition of India the didactical facilities to run the B. Pharm. course shifted from Lahore to Amritsar till 1959. The consolidated pharmacy instructional facilities under the banner of Department of Pharmacy were shifted to the Punjab University campus at Chandigarh. Dr. K. N. Gaind was given the reigns of the department. [2]
Colonel Sir Ram Nath Chopra CIE, IMS was an Indian Medical Service officer and a doyen of science and medicine of India. He is considered the "Father of Indian Pharmacology" for his work on pharmaceuticals and his quest for self-sufficiency of India in drugs. He was a pioneer of pharmacological research in India and took a special interest in indigenous drugs. After service in the army, he established a research laboratory where he worked as a professor of a pharmacology at the Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine which was established in 1921.

The Master of Sciences of Pharmacy (MPharm) is the standard master's degree program in Pharmacy. It is the oldest honourable Diploma (Degree) authorized from the European Faculties of Pharmacy as it takes four years to complete. It is based on a credit system higher than the normal Bachelor of Pharmacy degree (BPharm) and the American Pharmaceutical Diploma, Doctor of Pharmacy,(PharmD). The Faculty is a member of the Association of European Faculties of Pharmacy and its graduates meet all the requirements for the profession as defined by the European Union. In the initial three years students revise and broaden their knowledge of elementary natural and medical subjects to the level required for understanding specific subjects from the field of Pharmacy. Students attend lectures and seminars and take part in practical pharmacy placements. During the last year of study they work on their thesis. The programme is concluded by defending the thesis and taking the final state examination. Then the students are awarded the master's degree. The study programme is compliant with EU directive 2005/36/EC. Graduates awarded the master's degree can later sit for a thorough state exam including an advanced thesis defence. After passing they are awarded the "Testing Board" degree . Graduates can apply for postgraduate after studying several branches of Pharmacy in the five accredited years. After defending their dissertation, submit their researches in their selected branches of Pharmacy and passing the final state examination they are awarded the degree. The master's program is offered in different specialized areas, one major being Clinical Pharmacy. Clinical pharmacy specialization enables pharmacists to deliver higher levels of clinical services. In some countries these specializations are happening with residency programs Other specializations are available related to pharmaceutical industry careers. The Faculty closely cooperates with industry and runs a Faculty Pharmacy on the premises. D.Pharm means two year Diploma in Pharmacy. He is known for his contributions to the Green Revolution in India.
