Kimberley Girls' High School is a high school located on Elsmere Road in Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa. It is over a hundred years old and has close affiliation with Kimberley Boys' High School and Kimberley Junior School.

History

Kimberley Girls' High School was founded on 12 April 1887 in Woodley Street Hall. The Girls' High and Boys' High Schools, jointly known as the Kimberley Undenominational Schools, occupied separate wings of the building in Lanyon Terrace until 1913 when they moved to their present sites. [1]

Kimberley Boys' High School is a state secondary school or high school situated adjacent to the Honoured Dead Memorial, in the arc between Dalham and Memorial Roads, Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa – a site it has occupied since January 1914. The school was founded, along with what would become Kimberley Girls' High School, in 1887, under the name Kimberley Public Undenominational Schools. In July 1970 it gave rise to Kimberley Boys’ Junior School which in turn united with Belgravia Junior School in January 1977 to become what is today Kimberley Junior School.

It was once part of the oldest public school in Johannesburg, Jeppe High School for Boys until 1919, when a separate premises for the girls was built. Taconic Vocational High School is a vocational high school in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, United States. Taconic was built in 1968 and opened in 1969, which serves as a high school of choice for students in Pittsfield. The school's primary focus is on vocational training and it offers such courses as auto mechanics, printing, drafting, electronics, carpentry, and others. In May 2016, J. H. Maxymillian Inc. broke ground on a $120.8 million plan to construct a new Taconic High School at the same location. The new building was completed in time for the start of the 2018 school year and the old school was demolished upon completion of the new one. An expanded parking lot and soccer field were built where the old school stood in 2019. The new building covers 246,520 square feet. Along with Pittsfield High School, it is one of two high schools in the Pittsfield Public School system. In March 2022, the Taconic Braves were renamed as the Thunder.

Kimberley Junior School is part of a family of schools, with Kimberley Boys' High School and Kimberley Girls' High School, tracing their ultimate origins to the Kimberley Public Undenominational Schools founded in 1887. Kimberley Junior School came into existence in its present form with the amalgamation of Belgravia Junior School and Kimberley Boys' Junior School in January 1977, in buildings built for, and occupied for just over half a decade by, Kimberley Boys' Junior School, itself having hived off from Kimberley Boys' High in July 1970.
