Knut O. Aarethun (born 19 January 1942) is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party.

From 1964 he worked in the administration of the hospital in his native Lærdalsøyri.

In 1967 he entered Lærdal municipality council. He was later elected to the county council, first time in 1981. He became deputy county mayor in 1991, and then county mayor in 1995. He lost his post following the 1999 elections. From 2003 to 2007 he served as mayor of Lærdal.

Borgund is a former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It is located in the southeastern part of the traditional district of Sogn. The 635-square-kilometre (245 sq mi) municipality existed from 1864 until its dissolution in 1964. It encompassed an area in the eastern part of the present-day Lærdal Municipality. The administrative center of Borgund was the village of Steinklepp, just northeast of the village of Borgund. Steinklepp was the site of a store, a bank, and a school. The historical Filefjell Kongevegen road passes through the Borgund area.

Juklevatnet is a lake in the municipalities of Hemsedal and Lærdal, Norway. It is located 21 kilometres (13 mi) east of Borgund in Lærdal, just to the south of the mountain Høgeloft in the Filefjell range. The 3.07-square-kilometre (1.19 sq mi) lake sits at an elevation of 1,286 metres (4,219 ft) above sea level. It is located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) northeast of the lake Eldrevatnet and 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) northeast of the lake Øljusjøen.

Øljusjøen is a lake in the municipalities of Hemsedal and Lærdal, Norway. The 8.45-square-kilometre (3.26 sq mi) lake is located at an elevation of 1,335 metres (4,380 ft) above sea level. It sits about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) southeast of the village of Borgund and the European route E16 highway. The lake Eldrevatnet is 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the north. The lake Juklevatnet and the mountain Høgeloft are both about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) to the northeast.

Eldrevatnet or Eldrevatn is a lake in the municipality of Lærdal in Vestland county, Norway. The 3.48-square-kilometre (1.34 sq mi) lake lies at an elevation of 1,116 metres (3,661 ft) above sea level. It is located about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) southeast of the village of Borgund, not far from the European route E16 highway and the Filefjell Kongevegen road. The lake Øljusjøen lies 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) south of the lake. The lake Juklevatnet and the mountain Høgeloft both lie about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) to the northeast of the lake.

Frønningen is a village in Lærdal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the far northwestern corner of the municipality, east of where the Aurlandsfjorden empties into the main Sognefjorden. Prior to 1992, this area was a part of the old Leikanger Municipality, but on 1 January 1992 it was transferred to Lærdal Municipality. Frønningen only had 17 inhabitants in 2001, and there is no outside road connection. The only access to Frønningen is by a ferry that goes between the three villages of Kaupanger, Frønningen, and Gudvangen.
