In biology, a taxon is a group of one or more populations of an organism or organisms seen by taxonomists to form a unit. Although neither is required, a taxon is usually known by a particular name and given a particular ranking, especially if and when it is accepted or becomes established. It is very common, however, for taxonomists to remain at odds over what belongs to a taxon and the criteria used for inclusion. If a taxon is given a formal scientific name, its use is then governed by one of the nomenclature codes specifying which scientific name is correct for a particular grouping.

The artist when the strip first started was Barrie Appleby, who continued until 2004 with a strip by Gordon Bell in the 1994 annual and a sole strip by Nigel Parkinson in 2003, who took over the strip next year as part of the revamp at that time.

Kichel is a popular sweet cracker or cookie in Jewish cuisine commonly made with eggs, flour, and sugar rolled out flat and cut into large bowtie shapes. Although sweet they are typically eaten with a savoury dip or topping. They are also popular in Israel as a sweet snack or dessert. Jews in South Africa commonly serve kichel with chopped herring. Due to their light, airy nature, the cookies have sometimes been called "nothings." When prepared with matzah meal rather than flour, kichlach can be consumed during the Passover holiday.
Lacrosse gloves are heavily padded, protective gloves worn by men's lacrosse players. The gloves are designed to protect players' hands, wrists, and forearms from checks, or legal defensive hitting common in the sport. Gloves consist of thick padding on the back of the hand and forearm covered in leather or canvas material, and a palm area made of synthetic and mesh material. A goaltender's gloves may have extra padding for the thumb to protect against injury from shots. While NCAA collegiate rules require that men's gloves have palms covered, other leagues, including post-collegiate club lacrosse, the National Lacrosse League, Major League Lacrosse, and international play, permit players to cut out the palm area for greater grip and control of the lacrosse stick.
Cocol is one of the oldest types of bread known in Mexico. It was created when the Spanish invaded the Mesoamerican cultures. The Spanish taught Mesoamericans how to bake a bread, and then they made their own with the ingredients that were common at that time. This new bread was called cocol, and it is known as torito in some parts of the country. Cocol is made out of wheat flour, milk and some eggs. Before it is baked, the mass is given the figure of a rhombus. It is usually eaten with jam.
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a 22-yard (20-metre) pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The game proceeds when a player on the fielding team, called the bowler, "bowls" (propels) the ball from one end of the pitch towards the wicket at the other end. The batting side's players score runs by striking the bowled ball with a bat and running between the wickets, while the bowling side tries to prevent this by keeping the ball within the field and getting it to either wicket, and dismiss each batter. Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching a hit ball before it touches the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease line in front of the wicket to complete a run. When ten batters have been dismissed, the innings ends and the teams swap roles. The game is adjudicated by two umpires, aided by a third umpire and match referee in international matches.

Hilbah, also spelled Holbah, is a condiment made from ground fenugreek seeds, and a traditional Yemeni food, now popularized among other cultures as well, especially by Yemenite Jews in Israel, who have introduced it to other ethnic groups. Hilbah greatly expands when added to water, and when whisked in a bowl it takes on a light, frothy texture. It is consumed almost every day domestically in Yemen, and can be eaten by itself or added to Saltah and Fahsa. A dollop of Hilbah is often dished out of the larger batch and added to hot soup.
