The Lagercrantz family is an influential Swedish noble family, whose members held various positions in Sweden and Finland.

History

On 13 February 1682 he family was ennobled with the name Lagercrantz. On 6 October 1682 the family was introduced to the House of Nobility. The current head of the family is Carl Lagercrantz (born 1935).

Karl Stig-Erland "Stieg" Larsson was a Swedish writer, journalist, and activist. He is best known for writing the Millennium trilogy of crime novels, which were published posthumously, starting in 2005, after he died of a sudden heart attack. The trilogy was adapted as three motion pictures in Sweden, and one in the U.S.. The publisher commissioned David Lagercrantz to expand the trilogy into a longer series, which has six novels as of September 2019. For much of his life, Larsson lived and worked in Stockholm. His journalistic work covered socialist politics and he acted as an independent researcher of right-wing extremism.

Hedvig Gustava Lagercrantz (1862–1938), generally known as Ava de Lagercrantz, was a prominent Swedish portrait painter who was active in New York, Stockholm and Paris. A cousin of Sweden's envoy to Washington, Herman Lagercrantz, she prospered in New York from portrait commissions. She is also remembered for being called to paint the portraits of the Swedish kings Oscar II and Gustaf V. Several of her works are in the collection of the National Museum of Sweden.
