The Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) is one of the two major political parties in Sierra Leone, along with the All People's Congress (APC). It is the current ruling party in Sierra Leone since 4 April 2018.
Siaka Probyn Stevens was the leader of Sierra Leone from 1967 to 1985, serving as Prime Minister from 1967 to 1971 and as President from 1971 to 1985. Stevens' leadership was often characterized by patrimonial rule and self-indulgence, consolidating power by means of corruption and exploitation.

Sir Banja Tejan-Sie, GCMG was a politician and lawyer in Sierra Leone and one of the "founding fathers" of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP). Tejan-Sie was born in Moyamba District to a famous Muslim cleric and scholar from the Fulah tribe. Tejan-Sie was educated at the Bo School and the Prince of Wales School before continuing his education at the London School of Economics and Lincoln's Inn, where he was called to the bar in 1951.

Kailahun District is a district in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. Its capital and largest city is the town of Kailahun. The second most populous city in the district is Segbwema. Other major towns in Kailahun District unclude Koindu, Pendembu and Daru. As of the 2015 census, the district had a population of 525,372. Kailahun District is subdivided into fourteen chiefdoms.
Kenema District is a district in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. Its capital and largest city is Kenema, which is the third most populous city in Sierra Leone, after Freetown and Bo. Tongo is the second most populous city in the district. Other major towns in Kenema District include Blama and Yomboma. The district is the most populous district in the Eastern province with a population 609,873. Kenema District has an area of 6,053 km2 (2,337 sq mi) and comprises sixteen chiefdoms.
The Western Area Rural District is one of the sixteen districts of Sierra Leone. It is located mostly around the peninsula in the Western Area of Sierra Leone. The Western Area Rural District has a 2015 census population of 442,951. The district capital and largest city is Waterloo. Other major towns in the district include Newton, Benguema, Leicester, Tombo and Regent. Most of the towns and villages in the Western area rural District are close to the capital Freetown; and are part of the Freetown Metropolitan Area.
General elections were held in Sierra Leone on 11 August 2007. Seven candidates competed in the first round of the presidential election; no candidate received the necessary 55% of the vote to win in the first round, and a second round was held between the top two candidates, Ernest Bai Koroma of the All People's Congress (APC) and Solomon Berewa of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP), on 8 September. According to official results, Koroma won the election with 54.6% of the vote.
John Nicol Sahid Saad is a Sierra Leonean politician, who currently serves as Sierra Leone's Minister of Housing and Infrastructural Development. He is a member of the opposition People's Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC). He is one of only few members from the opposition parties to be elected as a minister in the current government. Saad was the Chairman of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) in London, United Kingdom for over ten years, but he resigned from the SLPP in 2006 to join the PMDC. He was born in Bo to a Mende mother from Segbwema, Kailahun District and a Sierra Leonean-Lebanese father. He is only the second Sierra Leonean-Lebanese person to be elected to one of the top ministerial positions in the national government of Sierra Leone.
Dennis Bright is a former Sierra Leonean cabinet minister. He served as Sierra Leone's Minister of Youth and Sports from 2002 to 2007. Dennis Bright taught French at university and was director of the Franco-Sierra Leonean Pedagogical Centre in Freetown. He is a member of the Creole ethnic group. He was member of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) before resigning in 2017.
Mandinka people of Sierra Leone is a major ethnic group in Sierra Leone and a branch of the Mandinka people of West Africa. Most Sierra Leonean Mandingo are the direct descendants of Mandinka settlers from Guinea, who settled in the north and eastern part of Sierra Leone, beginning in the late 1870s to the 1890s under the rule of prominent Mandinka Muslim cleric Samori Ture. Also later a significantly large population of Mandinka from Guinea migrated and settled in Eastern Sierra Leone and Northern Sierra Leone in the early to mid 20th century. The Mandingo people of Sierra Leone have a very close friendly and allies relationship with their neighbors the Mandingo people of Guinea and Liberia, as they share pretty much identical dialect of the Mandingo language, tradition, culture and food.
In April 1961, Sierra Leone became politically independent of Great Britain. It retained a parliamentary system of government and was a member of the British Commonwealth of Nations. The Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP), led by Sir Milton Margai were victorious in the first general election under universal adult franchise in May 1962. Upon Sir Milton's death in 1964, his half-brother, Sir Albert Margai, succeeded him as Prime Minister. Sir Albert attempted to establish a one-party state had the ready cooperation of the opposition All People' Congress but met fierce resistance from some cadre within his party Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) and ultimately abandoned the idea.
Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara is a Sierra Leonean politician, businessman and mining engineer who has been Minister of Trade and Industry of Sierra Leone since 2013. He previously worked as director of the Sierra Leone National Diamond Mining Company (NDMC).
Sheku Badara Bashiru Dumbuya, commonly known as S.B.B. Dumbuya, is a Sierra Leonean politician and former Speaker of the House of Parliament of Sierra Leone. A prominent member of the ruling All People's Congress (APC), S.B.B. Dumbuya was elected as Speaker on January 21, 2014 with one hundred parliamentarians voted in his favor, and fifteen parliamentarians voted for his opponent Bu-Buakei Jabbi of the main opposition Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP). S.B.B. Dumbuya succeeded Abel Nathaniel Bankole Stronge as speaker.
Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah also commonly known by his nickname Chericoco is Sierra Leonean lawyer and politician who is currently the Deputy speaker of parliament of Sierra Leone and Parliamentary Chairman of the Mines and Minerals Resources Committee. He had also served as Chairman of the Parliamentarry Legislative Committee.
Maigore Kallon was a Sierra Leonean politician and diplomat. A founding member of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP), he later served as the chairman of the party. Kallon served as the third Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone from 1965 to 1967. He briefly regained the position of Foreign Minister in 1996 during the first cabinet of President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, a member of the SLPP.
