The Larmanaye Faunal Reserve has an area of 3040 km2 as it supports rare wildlife species [1] It had been proposed initially by the local people as a total reserve to cover an area 882 km2. [2]
A nature reserve is a protected area of importance for flora, fauna or features of geological or other special interest, which is reserved and managed for conservation and to provide special opportunities for study or research. Nature reserves may be designated by government institutions in some countries, or by private landowners, such as charities and research institutions, regardless of nationality. Nature reserves fall into different IUCN categories depending on the level of protection afforded by local laws. Normally it is more strictly protected than a nature park.
The Gulf of California is a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean that separates the Baja California Peninsula from the Mexican mainland. It is bordered by the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, and Sinaloa with a coastline of approximately 4,000 km (2,500 mi). Rivers which flow into the Gulf of California include the Colorado, Fuerte, Mayo, Sinaloa, Sonora, and the Yaqui. The gulf's surface area is about 160,000 km2 (62,000 sq mi). Depths range from fording at the estuary near Yuma, Arizona, to in excess of 3,000 meters (9,800 ft) in the deepest parts.
Valley of Flowers National Park is an Indian national park, located in North Chamoli, in the state of Uttarakhand and is known for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and the variety of flora. This richly diverse area is also home to rare and endangered animals, including the Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, musk deer, brown bear, red fox, and blue sheep. Birds found in the park include Himalayan monal pheasant and other high altitude birds. At 3352 to 3658 meters above sea level, the gentle landscape of the Valley of Flowers National Park complements the rugged mountain wilderness of Nanda Devi National Park to the east. Together, they encompass a unique transition zone between the mountain ranges of the Zanskar and Great Himalaya. The park stretches over an expanse of 87.50 km2 and it is about 8 km long and 2 km wide. Both parks are encompassed in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve which is further surrounded by a buffer zone (5,148.57 km2). Nanda Devi National Park Reserve is in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
The Boucle du Baoulé National Park lies in western Mali, in Kayes Region and Koulikoro Region, set up in 1982. It has an area of 25,330 km² but has little large wildlife. The park is known for its prehistoric rock art and tombs. It is part of the UNESCO "Bouce Du Baoule Biosphere Reserve", along with Badinko Faunal Reserve to the southwest, Fina Faunal Reserve to the south, and Kongossambougou Faunal Reserve to the northeast.
The wildlife of Chad is composed of its flora and fauna. Animal and plant life correspond to the three climatic zones. In the Saharan region, the only flora is the date-palm groves of the oasis. Palms and acacia trees grow in the Sahelian region. The southern, or Sudanic, zone consists of broad grasslands or prairies suitable for grazing. As of 2002, there were at least 134 species of mammals, 532 species of birds, and over 1,600 species of plants throughout the country.
Singou Reserve is a complete reserve in Burkina Faso. Established in 1955, it is located in Gourma Province and covers an area of 1,926 km2 (744 sq mi).
Bontioli Reserve is a complete reserve in Burkina Faso. Established in 1957 it is located in Bougouriba Province and covers an area of 127 km2 (49 sq mi).
The Sylvo-Pastoral and Partial Faunal Reserve of the Sahel is the largest protected area of Burkina Faso, comprising an area of 16,000 km2. Within the area of the nature reserve are temporary lakes being important for migratory birds.
Mahendragiri, is a mountain peak at in the Paralakhemundi subdivision of the district of Gajapati, Odisha, India. It is situated amongst the Eastern Ghats at an elevation of 1,501 metres (4,925 ft).
The Nana-Barya Faunal Reserve is located in the Central African Republic. It was established in 1952.. The reserve is named after the Nana Barya River which borders it in the north.
The Badinko Faunal Reserve is on the West African savanna in southwestern Mali. It is part of the UNESCO Bouce Du Baoule Biosphere Reserve, along with Boucle du Baoulé National Park, which is immediately to the northeast of Badinko. The reserve is about 140 km northwest of the capital city of Bamako. It is in Kita Cercle of Kayes Region.
The Abdoulaye Faunal Reserve is a protected area located in Togo. It was established in 1951. The fauna reserve covers 300 km2 (120 sq mi).
The Abou Telfane Faunal Reserve is a protected area located in Chad. It was established in 1955. The fauna reserve covers 1,100 km2 (420 sq mi).
The Achanakmar-Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve is a biosphere reserve in India that extends across the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, covering a total area of 383,551 hectares (3835.51 km2).
The Binder-Léré Faunal Reserve, in south-west Chad, bordering Cameroon, was established in 1974 covering an area of 1,350 kilometres (838.85 mi). It has been designated as a Ramsar site since 2005.
The Ouadi Rimé-Ouadi Achim Faunal Reserve, is located in the Batha administrative region in the center of Chad. It an IUCN Category IV area, which was established in 1969. At 77,950 kilometres (48,435.88 mi) –equivalent to the size of Scotland- it is one of the largest reserves in the world.
The Mandelia Faunal Reserve in Chad was declared a reserve in 1969 covering an area of 1380 km2
The Beinamar Faunal Reserve covers an area of 7650 km2. It was proposed to be set up by the local people in view of its rare wildlife species.
The Siniaka-Minia Faunal Reserve was established as an IUCN Category IV area in 1965 covering an area of 4,260 km2 (1,640 sq mi), due its importance for preserving black rhinoceros.
