He played representative level rugby union (RU) for Wales XV, and at club level for Llanelli RFC, and representative level rugby league (RL) for Great Britain and Wales, and at club level for Oldham, as a second-row, i.e. number 11 or 12, during the era of contested scrums.

Sir Leslie Montagu Thomas was a British Conservative politician. He was elected Member of Parliament for Canterbury in a 1953 by-election, and served until he stood down in 1966. He had unsuccessfully contested Leek in 1935 as a National Labour candidate.
